We live on Long Island and have 8 people going to Carmine's resturant and 3 pm show Rent. I'd like to have the car because there's luggage for the couple staying in City for New Year's Eve but wonder about parking in theater district and trying to get home around 8 pm. THANKS!!!

There is relatively cheap parking at the Port Authority (42nd street bus terminal) which is right down the street from RENT, plus there is also parking right next door to the theatre on 41st street... if I were you, I would call ahead to make sure that that garage will not be effected by the street closings.. I would even call Carmine's, because you (and the other 7 people) may not even be able to get close to the restaurant, since they will start shutting everything down by then... worst case... you can park your car at a garage closer to the west side highway, closer to the Javits Center, and cab it back to the Theatre district...

Parking and traffic in NYC will be impossible tomorrow because it is New Year's Eve. The streets around Times Square are blocked anyway. Take the train no matter the cost. There are extra trains running as well.

there are parking garages near the theaters but they can be very expensive.
