I will be in LA for a couple days on business but will have some free time. What are some things I should do or see? Preferable in safe areas, that I can easily get to on my own?

My friends and I will to LA during December from San Francisco by plane. We won't drive in LA, I wonder how can we go to disneyland and grate canyon without driving.

Are there any shuttle buses or any public transportations that we can take? Or tour buses?

I've got a 9 hour layover in LAX after a 12 hour flight so need to shop after freshening up. Would it be best to check into a hotel that's near the airport then go shopping (how far away?), or is there a mall not far from LAX that has a hotel near it where I can check in?

I was recently in Los Angeles for the first time, drove up from San Diego. As I was entering LA on the freeway, I saw what I guess was smog, a yellow film around the lower sky. Does this ever go away, or is it always present?

In NW L.A. county, there is a section of I-5 where the traffic in one direction crosses over or under the traffic in the other direction, so that you drive on the left side of the oncoming traffic (which is far away, on the other side of a canyon) for a while, until you again cross over or under the uncoming traffic, and return to the right side.

Why?

(If you do not believe me, go to http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=address&country=US&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&level=&addtohistory=&cat=&address=royal+rd+and+the+old+rd&city=castaic&state=ca&zipcode=.)

This is between Castaic and exit 183.

After lots of thinking I've decided I want to move to LA to finish with school, but also to get into acting (film + tv). Originally I was looking at Santa Monica but it doesn't seem like it's located near any of the studios, but is living near the studios even necessary? My biggest question is where is the best place to live for this kind of thing? Burbank?

We are going to be visiting Cali soon at a resort in Escondido. We have maped out some sites we want to see because we have never been. We are very excited to see L A but I've heard about traffic being attrocious.

We plan to spend an entire day in LA; so how realistic is it for us to be able to actually drive to LA from Escondido in 2 hrs like the map says?

What are the busiest times for traffic?
