I have a friend who went on a working holiday of London, England and she tells me that (in her opinion) there is a lot of street violence at night. She also believes that the citizens are (generally speaking) fairly rude and unpleasant.

In 3 months time I also will be embarking on a working holiday to England (London specifically) and whilst my friends opinions won't prevent me from going, I am just curious to know whether anyone else (particularly foreigners) agrees or disagrees with her.

As an inmigrant, would you recommend to quit your job, leave everything behind and move to London, Would it hard to get a well paid job ? (30K) with a finance background?

How much would you need per month to "survive" while settling down? I'm considering 1,200 pounds minimun, is that reasonable?

Ok, this is something that I have been curious about everytime I visit Scotland. A few miles outside of Doune going towards Callander, on the left side of the road, the is a set of pink or salmon colored gates. There is also some ruins behind it that looks like a derelict gate house. There is always a big pile of dirt in front of the gateway. Does anyone know anything about this estate? Who it belonged to and why it is such disrepair?
Thanks!
