You can buy ready meals in Tesco 5 for £4. All big supermarkets have an area where stuff near its' sell by date is sold for half price. Bread is £1 a loaf and a stall on Middlesex Street sells 5 items of fruit for £1.
So I would say yes. Not very well, but for 4 weeks you shouldn't come to any harm from living on ready meals, beans on toast and one or two pieces of fruit.

No way! I am a full-time student in London and i am really stretching. I get 50 pounds a week to "live on" and i would say at least 15 of this goes into food. That's 60 a month. And i really don't eat much. 40 would be extremely tight. But you can always try. Good luck

it somewhat is a good value variety yet once you pull your handbag strings tight i'm specific you will manage. attempt to no longer spend extra effective than £15 a week petrol, in all probability £10 in case you could manage, and that leaves you with £25-£30 for groceries, cleansing products, and cat nutrition. Supermarkets are in all probability extra value-effective for clean produce to be truthful, attempt Asda and Tesco, they're the main inexpensive. attempt and purchase value products like Asda's very own, i comprehend it does not look advantageous in spite of if it somewhat is definitely nonetheless produced by employing named manufacturers, yet priced extra value-effective for the shops and labelled Asda's very own as an occasion. in case you purchase meat and prepare dinner a dish jointly with bolognese or chilli con carne, make a load and freeze a number of it in tubs, that would desire to do you for some food. Pasta is mostly a low value determination too. stable success, i'm specific you would be wonderful, in case you detect you're suffering save a particular eye on what you're spending, and doubtless if that may no longer adequate for you, upload an further £5 or £10 a week. wish all is going nicely :) xx

You could not eat for a week on £40.in London, never mind a month. ! Even if you bought carbohydrate foods which `fill `you up, in any case you need to eat a balanced diet to stay healthy. You should buy some `one a day` multi-vitamin tablets if you have to live `on the cheap` at least that way ,you will get some of the nutrients for your body.

You can do it at a stretch and if you are careful with your money. What I would say is for you to buy you fruit & vege off a market stall and use the supermarket for your bread & milk. Lidl is good if you want cheap tinded food.
If you are out of work Like I was you can do it! A couple of Jacket potatoes whith marge & beans on them will be two meals. The main thing is being carful with what you buy & look for the best Deals. (I got a tray of Oranges for Borough Market befor Christmas and they lasted 3 weeks because I kept them cool)

Yes, if you use your imagination a little.
Save £20 for fresh bread, milk, potatoes etc to last for the 4 weeks.
With the rest buy things that will last or can be split into seperate portions and frozen. Enough to last the 4 weeks. Trust me it can be done, I know I have done this on a regular basis and with all the buy one get one free (bogof's) you will be surprised!

Not if you're buying from normal shops.
I saw a TV programme a while back, about some guy who got stuff out of the bins of big food stores. The stores throw loads of good food away, just because it's over its sell by date. He lived for virtually nothing, on good stuff. Not sure I could do that, though.

I highly doubt it. I spent three months in London in fall 2005, and we were given about 200 pounds per month to cover meals not eaten with our host families. This money covered all of our lunches and four of our dinners - which roughly averaged to 3 pounds for lunches and 6 pounds for dinner...
What I did was bought a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter and a pack of chips (crisps over there) and I'd make my own lunches instead of eating out. To save money, make your own food instead of going out to eat all the time, because it's expensive. But I think you'll have to spend more than 40 pounds to last you 4 weeks!

Easily peasily! I'd suggest going to the main supermarkets although if you shop an hour before closing at Somerfield you get stuff near it's sell-by date dirt cheap. Avoid Europa who have a pride in situating themselves in posh areas and attaching a posh price to their goods too. Iceland do good offers too.
