I'm visiting York for my birthday on the 20th and 21st of September this year. I haven't been before. I will be on my own. I'm interested in finding out about the history and seeing some sights. And doing some sort of ghosty type thing. I want somewhere to stay for as cheap as possible. All ideas welcome!

I'm a US citizen, but am interested in living in the UK for an extended period of time. I've heard that I need an EU passport to find work easily, though. Since that is not an option, does anyone know the kind of work visas that are available to Americans and how one would go about applying for one?
