By Road Gloucestershire is linked to London, Birmingham and Bristol by three major motorways that circle the county.
The M4 motorway runs from London to South Wales skirting the south of the county via Swindon (and is a forty-minute drive from Cheltenham via the A419/417).
The M40 links London with Birmingham.
The M5 runs from Birmingham through the length of Gloucestershire into the heart of England's South West . Birmingham to the north of the county is approximately a one hour drive via the M50/M5. London is approximately 2½ hours via the M4.
