We're willing to do anything pretty much (well, anything short of illegal).....I speak broken Italian, but my friend don't really speak any. We have a whole year before we arrive in Roma and we have enough money to get by for a few months so we have that long to search for a job of any kind. I have great knowledge of Rome and its history (I took Latin for 3 years and I have found out everything I can about Italy) so I'm hoping that will help somehow. We will be there legaly. So, do you have any advice for us or anything? Thanks. Oh, and if its of any importance we'll be 19 at the time and we are two American females. Thanks again!

for several months how do I find a place to live? And how much do apartments cost-in bigger cities and smaller towns? Is it possible to find short term rentals (for months, not a full year). I don't know what the system is like there.

I don't think thats true. I think alot of people may hate our government, but I don't think they hate the people themselves. When ever I went to Europe I met nothing but friendly people, but that was over 3 years ago and I was wondering if anything has changed. I'm going back to Italy next summer and thats why I'm asking this question here......so, is Italy (Rome to be more specific) still as loving towards Americans as it was when I was there over 3 years ago, or is everything different now? Thanks for the answers!

I will be leaving from 5Terre on Sunday (or Monday), and meeting a friend in Florence on Friday afternoon. Suggestions? I really don't want a whirlwind tour. Just want to soak it up!

I live in the Detroit area, and am traveling to Italy in a week. I want to convert about $500 to euros. Should I try to find a place here or wait until I get to Italy?

I want to suprise my boyfriend for our 5th aniversary with a trip to Rome. I have already purchased the flight tickets, but now it seems that hotels are too expensive (we are staying 5 nights!!!)...Any suggestions??? (cheap means: up to 65 euros per night) I've looked in many web pages and there are little pensions without bathroom. Probably an aparthotel, somehting nice and not too expensive. I don't want luxury, but a clean and nice quiet room to sleep. I've read also that some cheap rooms are in "dangerous" zones...
Anyhow, If you know any nice&clean&cheap hotel/pension please please tell me....
Thanks!

I am planning a trip to Rome on spring break with students who study Latin. Are the Baths of Caracalla or the Baths of Diocletian better to visit for students?

Ok, I'll be in Rome for a year but I'm not sure what all they have (and I'm talking about personal items) and how expensive things will be. For example, do they have all the name brand things we have (like shampoo, mascara, "feminine" products, and so forth) and if they do is it much more expensive than in the states? And don't get me wrong, I'm not acting like I'm going back to the 14th century, because I'm sure somebody that was coming from Italy to the US would be asking the same questions because I know we don't have everything they have either. So, whats more expensive there or cheaper than it is here. Also, I have to take with me everything that I'm going to want for a year from home on the plane....I love reading and couldn't go a year with out my favorite books, so will they let me on the plane with like 10 or more books and not think that I'm going to be selling them or something? Another thing, is there an English bookstore in Rome? I heard there was. Thanks for the help!

Hi, Ive only 3 full days in Italy, september 06, our plan is to stay in Rome for 2 full days and n one day in Venice. I ve seen most of France but since my hubby is on a training we would be left with only 3 days to see Italy. Please suggest if it is a good idea to spend so much money and spend only 3 days in Italy? Or shold we postpone it for later when we have more time?
Thanks

Something reasonable in cost (not a private tour). I'll be there in late October 2006. An internet link would be most helpful.
