I want to go to Florence for one year possibly longer.

I am a self employed [freelance] designer and work online so I can live anywhere and don't need to find employment.

I am Australian - 26 years old.

What Visa would I need if any?

Can anyone suggest a nice, romantic hotel in Florence, Italy? Nothing outrageously expensive but still charming.

Thanks!

I'm trying to find information from other students or people living in Florence as to finding a great apartment rental in Florence for 3 students visiting from the US for a period of 3 months. The address of the school is 'Lorenzo de Medici, Via del Giglio 15, 50123. They do not want the school housing and are looking for
a nice place with a good location. Price of course, matters, as they are students. Please help, any information is greatly appreciated. They are fashion design students and are embarking on a chance of a lifetime. We just
need direction as to finding good clean housing in a safe area, with plenty of amenities nearby, like
Groceries, restaurants, etc.. Any advice, especially from those persons in Florence or those who have lived there before is greatly appreciated.

I'm from America and like to keep updated with sports and news, so I often stream live video using a Slingbox (great gadget for all you travelers out there).

Unfortunately, streaming video takes up a lot of bandwidth, so I need to get either a broadband or ADSL connection that's not limited per month. I need a minimum of 380 Kbps upload speed for good viewing.

What are the current rates for the initial set-up and monthly fees? Who are the major companies that offer high-speed internet in Florence?

And, is Wi-Fi widely used there? Are there a lot of hotspots?

Thanks in advance.

Hi All. I'm from San Diego, CA and looking to move to Florence and use it as a base of operations for traveling. I love traveling and in the past 2 years, I've lived in 3 countries - Switzerland, Germany, Russia. In America, I was a personal trainer, but because of the language barrier in these countries, I began work as a Teacher of English as a Foreign Language.

I'd like to move by Jan. or Feb. of '07. Is that realistic? Does that give me enough time for processing all the necessary paperwork and anything else involved with living in Italy?

Any advice on how to plan this move would be much appreciated!

Also, I'd like to get an "insiders" view of Florence, and Italy in general, from both Italians and foreigners already living there. If you feel comfortable communicating more in-depth information by email (anything from political, economic, and social climate to good clubs, bars, cafes, restaurants, and other "hotspots"), PLEASE do so.

Thanks!

During the summer of 2008 i'm going to be studying abroad in Italy. The way it looks right now is half the summer will be in Florence while the other half in Rome. I was thinking doing the first half in Florence because it is a smaller city and I could get used to being in another country (from the US) before going to Rome. Does this seem like a good idea? By this time I will have 2 years of Italian under my belt so hopefully I will fit in well. I know Italians are really big into shoes, do you think I will stick out because I am more of the skater/surfer type? And I don't know if I'd ever wear loafers. Also what do Italians drink (alcohol wise)? And does anyone know how many euros alcohol will cost? Haha i'm not an alcoholic just a college student.

I would like to find information on regional Tuscan dialects. I have friends in Florence and Rome and have noticed small differences when they speak. I speak Italian as well. Speakers would be a great help. ciao a tutti!

Hello and thanks for looking at my question. I am in the market for kitchen cabinets. My wife and I like a contemporary look, specifically cabinets from Scavolini, Snaidero, Cesar and/or Elmar, but they are a little too expensive. Can you please list 4 or 5 Italian cabinets manufactures who sell cabinets at a lower price point. We hope to find a manufacturer whos cabinets are a good value.
