I'm going to be in Paris between Christmas and New Years and would like some suggestions on fun and inexpensive things to do. Is there a traditional activity in Paris? Like our Times Square? Any suggestions?

How was it decided that Paris should be divided into 20 arrondissments? Why 20? And why is France divided into 22 regions? Why 22? And does each region have its own laws and governor?

I grew up in a beautiful French neighborhood in Manhattan, Nyc and always enjoyed being exposed to the culture. There was a French church next door to my brownstone that was owned by my building. Every Sunday they would have church and afterwards would have lunch including wine and beer in the back yard followed by French style singing with an accompanied musician. I was curious, is it the custom to drink in the mornings? And how much drinking would you say they engage in a day? I've decided to start learning French and that memory just occured to me. I'm interested in finding out about the drinking part of the culture as I am aware wine is important to their custom.

i'll be going there in 7 years(yeah, long time) and just from seeing the pictures and the people, i think it's so romantic, but i don't want to get over there just to be let down by a bunch of man whores or rude losers.

I currently live in the South of England but I'm looking into the possibilities of moving to Paris. How can I find a job there first? I can speak basic French but would like a job in something like an english language bookshop or something similar at first. Also, what area's are relatively cheap to live in, but aren't too dangerous?!

We're going to Paris, France from Dec 15 - Dec 24 and will be staying in a rented apartment two blocks from the Louvre. Does anyone know of any special "local" events going on at that time? Last time in Paris, we went to a free strings (viola, violins, bass, cello) concert in a nearby 16'th century church; I'm hoping to find something like that. Or, a Christmas Market. I can find the "big" events like opera, ballet, tours, etc; but looking for something quaint. When we were in Innsbruck for Christams five years ago, they built in the Altstadt a festival that had vendors of locally made items (knitted accessories, trinkets, etc) and booths of mulled wine, and music. That was awesome! Also, even so we're only there a week, we'd like to buy a Christmas tree for our apartment. Are there tree lots in the city? Thank you SO much for your help and input! You all are the best! B.E.S.T.

I am in paris for a few more days (4 days). I want to go out of paris to see some local rustic culture and lifestyle. Are there any festivals this week or special/unique activities? I like to do photo-documentaries.
the only limit is time. I figure if I stay close to paris I can spend more time in one place or visit several places as opposed to going further away. I am not ruling out options yet.

I'm pretty sure it's at the corner of rue Saint Honoré and rue Croix des Petits Champs, it's in the 1e arrondissement. It's multi-story, modern looking, and the external skin is kind of a metal scroll work. There was a French flag flying above it when saw it.
