My husband and I went to Paris over the holidays and were very disappointed by the city in general -- the museums and food are wonderful, but the city is vastly overrated otherwise.

One big downer to the vacation was the people. The people in Paris are rude and unfriendly. This is the first vacation I've taken where the locals were so unwilling to help us. People say that the French are only like this toward Americans, but this is not true (we are not American, were not speaking English, and they were still rude). I didn't realize what a difference the locals make in shaping one's vacation, but it really is true.

I had high hopes for Paris but came away very disappointed. There are plenty of better places to visit where the people are warm and inviting.

Has anyone online been to Maxim's in Paris ? Maybe a frenchman can answer this one. I believe it costs about 30 pounds (400 rands and about 50 euros) for a coffee there - Is this at all true ? Because I am struggling to believe that anyone would pay that for a coffee. I have a bet riding on this so please help if u can.

I am going to paris with 3 friends in May. So far we have an apartment we are renting for a week. I am having trouble putting together a budget for food and attractions. We are young and very excited to really get out there and do alot but we want to do it as cheap as possible. What is a good amount of money to budget for a week of food and attractions? Our apt does have a kitchin so we will buy food from the supermarket to cut the price.

and got a lot of dirty looks...was wearing shorts and a tank top, so that might be why, or is it just that I'm obviously American? Also in other areas of the city, which were friendlier, I still got the feeling that I wasn't all that welcome. The group I traveled with were young and some were acting a bit spoiled, but on the whole, just want to know, are we very disliked over there? What can we do to change it, besides politics (we really have no way of doing that).
