I lived in New York, Washington, DC and London (all in the innercity part), so I know how cities can get in terms of safety, etc., but this is still the first time I am taking a trip to a city without knowing anybody there...and I would really appreciate it if you could tell me things to avoid, things to watch out, parts of Paris city that might not be the best idea to go at night, etc. I want to take every precaution as possible! Thank you!

My ancestors came from the Polish region of Silesia in the 1800s. Is it a nice area? What are the people like?

Try to describe the difference- though I know it's mainly cultural. This is not meant to be racist in any way, I'm simply trying to gain a few opinions. Different cultures have their quirks- both positive and negative. I'm just asking about a TYPICAL greek male here.
I can describe my experience with greek men like this: they are much more forward than americans. They aren't afraid to tell you what they think, and I mostly consider this to be a good thing. (The bad part comes in when they try to hit on you and just don't get it when you tell them to stop!)
In general, they are also more passionate- another great, great trait. I'd rather be in a heated argument with someone than with a piece of "dry toast" (as described in my big fat greek wedding). In relationships, do greeks tend to channel this passion moreso to romance, or sexual aggression?
Aside from these specific observations, how else might you describe your typical greek man in relation to one of another culture?

In Turkey, one can see flags are everywhere. On balconies, in shop windows, on taxis, some of them in huge sizes seen from everywhere. Even some churches in Istanbul now have Turkish flags in their gardens. Why does a church put a flag in its garden? Do Turks have a deeper fear? Against whom are all these flags hoisted? Has every day turned into a national day? If these flags belong to every Turkish person who is bound to this country with Turkish citizenship, who is trying to say what and to whom?

Okay well i am 15 and moved from a fancy Paris street to a raunchy New York jungle and I completely miss home! I am 5 foot 6 inches and have green eyes and brownish red hair. I am very polite and civilized. Everyone here seems dirty and pierced all over. No one will talk to me and it is so hard on me coming from all my friends in Paris to America. Can anyone assure me that I am not an ugly beast and that I may be somewhat noraml or pretty or something? Any assurance appreiciated! Thanks a bundle everyone!

I'm coming up with alternate history possibilities based on the following described historical events.

In the year 990, Prince Vladimir adopted the Eastern Orthodox form of Christianity to remain independent of external political control, especially of the Germans. This Byzantine baptism led Russia, over time in history, into 13th century Mongol occupations and self-isolation from Europe, which included the Renaissance, the Reformation, overseas exploration/colonization, and the commercial/democratic/industrial revolutions of the 18th-20th centuries. It also led Russia as the only independent center of Orthodoxy even after the fall of Constantinople to the Turks in 1453.

I therefore look for possibilities based on the following questions. What if Prince Vladimir adopted another religion, such as Roman Catholicism, Judaism, or Islam? How would a Catholic, Jewish, or Muslim Russia affect Europe and the rest of the world? Would the Russian Revolution of 1917 be avoided?

I was thinking about this today, and I think the UK could be considered part of Scandinavia. Firstly, Denmark is always considered part of Scandinavia, and yet about 80% of England is on the same latitude as Denmark, and Scotland is entirely on the same latitude as Southern Sweden and Southern Norway. It varies a lot as to whether Iceland is included in Scandinavia, but when it is, geographically the UK wouldn't be too far West in comparison to Iceland. Obviously, the UK has far less cultural connection and similarities than Iceland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway have with eachother; but when Finland is included in Scandinavia, I feel Finnish culture is as far apart, if not more so than the UK. Finland don't even speak a Indo-European language, let alone a Germanic language.

So what's your opinions on the matter, what does everyone think?
