Romania is an Eastern European country that survived one of the worst Communist dictators in history, Nicolae Ceauşescu, who not only starved and shot his own people, but was also the cause for thousands of children to be orphaned. While his people lived in poverty, he build a huge palace to himself, the Ceauşescu palace, which is the world's second largest building in the world after the Pentagon. Nicolae Ceauşescu and his wife, Elena, were shot after a short trial during the Romanian revolution.

Romania is the homeland of the Dracula legend, has produced some of the world's best gymnasts, and has a rich countryside with a unique pastoral culture. You probably have seen a small Romanian village if you've seen the Borat movie -- the opening of the film is supposed to be in Kazakhstan, but it's really in Romania.

The capital city, Bucharest, is unique and beautiful in it's own way, but Romania is known now as the wild west of Europe -- it's not the safest or most civilized, and anything goes.

Well, the location part has already been answered. Anyway, Brancusi, a world-renown sculptor, was born and raised in Romania. At one point, a sculpture of his sold for about $18 million at auction, the most a sculpture was sold for. A while later, another one of Brancusi's sculptures sold for about $27 million, breaking his own record.

Transylvania is part of Romania, and the original Dracula, Vlad Tepes, is from there.

Once I met a lady from Transylvania and she said she never heard of Dracula until she moved to the US.

It's in Eastern Europe, right next to Hungary. Communism was only overthrown there in the late 80's. Look it up on Wikipedia.
