I'm smirking, because I've had to ask myself that exact same question once.
Here's the deal:

If you can expect to be making a lot of money in your profession, choose the UK.
The comparatively low, UK taxes and open, cosmopolitan society are great for anyone who wants to get ahead in life. But be aware that it'll also be crowded, dirty, crime-ridden, violent, ugly as heck in places, and that you can lose your money there as easily as you can make it.
The people in the UK are a dream. I love these guys, even though every now and then, one of them will bash you about the head with a brick, mug you, or smash your car's windscreen for no other reason but having had a bit too much fun up his nose that evening.

Germany is an entirely different world. On the one hand, it oozes cleanliness, elegance, an egalitarian sort of prosperity, and is simply absolutely beautiful wherever you go; but their taxes and social deductions are mind boggling (you get to keep about half of your earnings), the mentality can get you down in the long run (they just don't get the concept of taking life lightly there), and it's not as easy to make friends there as it is in the UK. Germans are really deep people, and everything takes very long.

I'd say, pick Germany only if you speak the language well, have an affinity to their culture, and are prepared to live a quiet, maybe even lonely, if nice life.
For me, it would be the UK again though, hands down. Call me crazy.

If you look at housing prices and the health care system: Germany. Germany's health care system is nothing to write home about, but it is just a bit better than the NHS in the UK.

First of all depends on the language you are speaking ... it could be pretty bad to live in a place where you don't understand anything on the street, or on tv
