It's like they say, "Paris isn't France". Personally, I really like Paris. But I understand if you don't. Not all of Paris is romantic.
I have lived in a small town in Alsace, named Wissembourg, Departement du Bas-Rhin, for two years, and would still be there today, and happily so, if..., oh well, life, you know.
I think the thing to keep in mind about Paris is that it is really only its very core which speaks to people's souls: Place de la Concorde, Champs Elysees, Montmartre, les Tuileries, etc. Unless you can extract pleasure from being there, and turn a blind eye on the stressful realities of using the metro and living in vile satellite burbs, Paris will not come to you.
Give it another chance though.
Sit in a Brasserie, get into the kind of spirit movies like Amelie or Delicatessen can give you, and realize you may not always be in France - make sure you don't regret your abstinence of the heart in later years.
Bonne chance, and greetings from New Zealand, from a guy who wishes he had spent a few more years in France.
