I am French , and I already have been in Turkey,Bodrum.
That was great ,people were nice; beaches are beautiful, food is delicious, prices are ok, and I really had fun with all the new friends I met there.
I will return soon, for sure...
But I also would like to visit Greece, because it's a little different ( language and religion).
I suppose Greece can also provide the same fun and the same pleasure, as these countries have many things in common.
And I think that you can take more seriously only the answers from people who are NEITHER Greek NOR Turkish, and who have visited BOTH countries, in case you fear that people may not be sincere

As a Christian I feel much better about visiting Greece. Turkey is a wonderful country with a rich culture and history, but when I study the history of this land, it makes me very uncomfortable to even think of going there.

I have been to both. And even though the weather is about the same, as far as the history, archeology and beaches are concerned, I would have to say that I like Greece better. I am not saying this just because I am Greek. For the tourists, I think that Greece is more "user friendly".

From the point of view of the weather, there is not much difference. The archaeological sites on the Southern coast and just about everywhere else in Turkey are much more impressive than those in Greece. The best place for a quiet beach holiday in Europe (though it's not in Europe of course) is the Lycian coast. Turkey is getting too much like some of the Greek resorts in tourist 'hot spots' like Marmaris though, which are worth avoiding. Away from those you can find really good places. Inland you should not miss travelling around Cappadocia. Too much of the Greek tourist industry has been too intensive for too long, and it is more expensive. The Turkish inter city coach services are high quality and very good value for money.

Greece, by far, fantastic place for all the things you mentioned, and, they are more 'western' in their attitude and far friendlier to tourists. I am British [ I now live in New Zealand ], I have travelled a lot and rate Greece and Singapore as probably the best places for holidays.

As far as history and archaeology go, it really depends on what you want to see. I can't compare them in terms of service, cleanliness etc because I haven't yet visited Turkey.
Oh, and I'm sick of those morons who give thumbs down just because their preferences differ from the ones expressed here. If you guys are Greek, you're not "supporting'" Greece this way. You're just being stupid (and giving Greeks a bad name).
(And I'm Greek by the way).

You can't compare them! They are both completely different!
Greece has very picturesque islands! The archeological sites are better looked after!
For Turkey, the food is better, everything is better organized, streets are cleaner, people are more helpful and friendlier, the beaches are better and cleaner!
And now that I am getting all the thumbs down from Greece for giving an honest opinion that could help you making things better, I will go to Turkey next year on my vacation! And I am neither Greek nor Turkish by the way! And I will tell all my friends about it too!

Though you are 'playing' with our mude, I would say to you to visit both, but choose Greece if you had to choose one of them.
I would personally visit Greece because:
a. is a small country and you can see many marvelous places gathered together.
b. is safer than Turkey, as it is a purely democratic country with European laws, lower criminality rates etc.
c. is better organized, better public transportations, taxis and connections between certain destinations, use of credit cards (which is less common in Turkey)
d. is cleaner, as some people say, and you don't have to be careful with meat.
e. a four stars hotel in Greece is equal to a 3 stars hotel in Turkey. My brother got married in Istanbul and I have personal experience.
f. you can communicate easier if you need something, as everyone speaks at least English and maybe they also speak your language, whereas in Turkey it is very rear.
I don't agree that Greece and Turkey are so very much alike. Every country has it's own beauties and it's own character and this is the most important for your choice.
