My Slovakian employees tell me they were unfairly booted by the Czech Republik. But not one of them illiterate an reason. They just say they were abandoned. They hate Czechs now and call them names like "stupid donkeys" but they can't tell me why this deep seated hate for their former countrymen.

The only thing they seem greatful for is that it did not turn into a civil war. They feel it might have 'been like Bosnia'. Does this mean there is an ethnic divide between the two countries?

I employ many Slovaks but no Czechs so there is no one voicing the other side.

Can anyone shed any light?

I live in Prague and I have seen a plenty of my people living here or just visiting this country and behaving like some arrogant jerks: jesting at people on the streets, destroying the hotel rooms, throwing the street sculptures from the Charles Bridge to the river, paying the Czech prostitutes to harass them…

And this is not only about hooligans. I have met a plenty of "polite" Western businessmen who think that with their money, they have a right to change the face of this city, to take off the ornaments and sculptures form the historically important facades…

What are we trying to demonstrate: our power, democracy, civility, money and all the things we are so proud with, or we are just showing our real face here, far from our laws and institutions?

Why do we think we should not feel any gratitude for the country we came in, for the people looking and tolerating us, for the people whose history and culture will always be older and richer then ours? Why do we think we don't need to know anything about the Eastern Europeans?

I have 37 Slovakians working for me this summer. They range in age from 23 to 41 and they are all from Bratislava or its suburbs. They are getting paid $10 per hour, which evidently is a large sum for Slovakia.

My question is that not one of them does a half a days work by american standards. Is eastern Europe just really lax in it's work ethic? I find them sleeping in the bathrooms, stealing things from the kitchen, ignoring or being outright rude to our customers.

It has been a nightmare but I need employees. Is the problem the Slovakian Government agency just sent me a bunch slackers or do I need to search out workers from a different country?

Does anyone have experience with J1 workers from places other than lazy bum land, I mean Slovakia.

I keep seeing adverts on the Travel Channel for property in Romania and it looks great. But most websites make it sound like a difficult country to get around because of limited or poor transportation. I just want to go for a week to check it out. Where should I go and how do I get around?

Thinking of heading there the first week in October.
Anyone who has links to a B&B or cheap apartments,
anyone been there before, could recommend a place,
or anyone currently living there who knows waht the place is all about.

Weather 1st week in October?
Nightlife?
