Go with the lads? You make it sound like an away game at, say, Everton. If that's your plan, don't think about it. Went over in 1997, and some of our - mostly mature - crew (Norwich City fans in their early thirties) decided to sing Abba songs with - er - different words. Funny, huh...but saw some Swedes who made the old-stylee Millwall fans look like sniffling kids in cots. Not all Swedes act like easy-going Southern Californians.

Yes, it will be a great place to go with the lads. Although expensive. It is the city of the beautiful people, old and young and everyone is perfect. Although outwardly cool, the Swedes are a friendly bunch and their English is impeccable.

I agree with Ellie, the Berns hotel is a modern, slick and sophisticated hotel, but stay on the business floor and take your CD's as all of the rooms are equipped with Bose sound systems and all of the rooms are soundproofed. The bar and club at Berns are also very sophisticated, so take money and good clothes.

Cafe opera is the club of the rich and famous and it's better to eat there as that guarantees you to a table and the after dinner entertainment.

Also, you could try the SAS Royal Viking Hotel Hotel, room service McDonalds and the SkyBar at the top overlooking the city, also good is the Light Hotel which is across the road from the Absolut Ice Bar which again you will need reservations for. Plan in advance and get your reservations all booked or you might end up disappointed.

I agree with Ellie, ignore Seaside Girl, once the Swedes get going, they get going and they are a very friendly bunch, no snobiness at all. Also, ignore what the bloke said about Gothenburg... Goteborg is actually a Stockholm wannabe and doesn't compare.

I worked in the Nordic region for about 5 years and was based pretty much out of Stockholm so I know the city well.

As previous answerers have said... it is bloody expensive... so if you don't want to spend loads, buy duty free and get halfway there while you are getting ready to go out.

Whatever you do don't stay at the Grand Hotel.. it's meant to be the best but it's normal rooms are cr@ppy and the whole place is overly pretentious.

Have fun boys!

Perfect to go to with lads.
but beer cost 5-6$/pint and a shot is too much money to order in a bar. You and the lads are to investigate the state spiritouse dealer 'Sysembolaget' then Stockholm have many nice parks were alchohole are banned but you as tourists can blame that.
Outsider tip:
Try beutyful Haga-parken -Haga-park.An big almost wildlike area made for the king Gustaf III in 1700s and located 30 minutes from city with train/bus.
If you get billed for drinking there you are blind to miss that some strange police gatherings comes over the plain(nooo).

The women are:

YeHAA!!

Swedes used to have the problem when abroad to find a girl that dont look like some gym teacher from eastern europe in the 70s.

I've been there with a group of friends a couple of years ago over New Year. Though we did have a good time there is not really a bar culture like there is in London, made worse by the fact that drinks are absurdly expensive. In a lot of places as much as £7/£8 per drink.

Also the off licenses are state owned and have wierd opening times so you cannot easily buy drinks before going out (with most of the beer limited to 2/3% by law.)

If you want somewhere unusual why not go to Tallinn, Estonia. There are cheap flights from the UK, plus the beer is cheap!

Yes they are.... but so are the men... so you'll have serious competion!

Stay at the BERNS hotel... have a great bar and club as part of the hotel, always rammed... alternatively try Cafe Opera, another great club, but make sure your hotel put you on the guest list.

Also make reservations at the Aboslut Ice Bar.

Stockholm is a great city for any weekend away!

It is very pricey though, so beware...

Ignore seaside girls... once the swedes get going, they will give the brits a run for their money... they are very friendly and love the English.... I practically lived in Stockholm!!!

There are many very cute looking girls in Stockholm and they aren't all blonde. Got to the Tourist Centre in downtown and there is this one woman who works there who is part african, part European with an incredible voice and jugz that make you wish you were a toddler.

There are so many attractive females in Stockholm, that ugly women actually started to look attractive because you got sick and tired of your jaw dropping from all the babes.

I'm serious.. Many hotties in Stockholm.

Many foreigners (and Swedish) claim it's the most beautiful capital in Europe. I agree - it's marvellously situated at the waterside, the Old town (800 years old, crammed with mediaeval buildings) is exciting as few, and the night life on the south side is a delight. You won't be disappointed with the girls!

Sweden is fairly reserved, very tidily and very orderly and they don't drink to get drunk. I suspect a lads weekend in Stockholm would result in arrests and jail time til you sobered up and a quick march back to the airport to get you out! Wouldn't recommend it for that sort of weekend.

My friend in Gothenburg says the best thing about Stockholm is the train out of there.
