some one says this to me on the street in athens, i try to look in dictionary, but i dont know what it is...

they say something like pootsas kabilas?
then they take their arm and swing across they chest like they want to strike me. athelfi they say to me too. this means brother?

My sister and I are going to Greece this summer for a week and the flights are outrageously expensive flying out from Detroit to Athens right now! Should I wait until closer to the time we're leaving to get a better deal? I'm getting kind of frustrated in my search and could use some help!

e.g.In the movie it results that Paris saw Aphrodita..Hera..and another goddess...

3 Days after Santorini?

My boyfriend and I are going to Greece in May.

So far we are doing:
1 day in Athens
3 day tour that goes to Olympia and other sites
2 days in Mykonos
3 days in Santorini

We are looking for advice as to what we should do for our last 3 days. We wanted to do Chania, Crete, but we can't find any ferry service. Any ideas of where we can finish off our trip?

We are 25-30. If we could find a place that has something other than just beaches that'd be great.

This is probably an unorthodox method of doing this, but I appeal to the Hellenic Diaspora if they can help me locate any of the following:

1) - TV Zapping tv listings guide published a special 15 year anniversary edition on 16 March 2007 with reproduction of 15 years worth of publications. I need to procure a copy of this.

2) - Since last Autumn, a weekly partwork has been on sale at kiosks consisting of a hardback book and CD on every nomos (or district) in Greece. On 2 March 2007, edition 20 was published for Nomos Arta (town and region in Western Mainland Greece). Am also seeking this edition.

3) - At the 2004 Olympics, a daily magazine/programme was on sale at the stadia for 3 or 5 Euros. I wasnt able to lay my hands on the last two editions. If anyone is willing to sell, or would be able to tell me how to find these: Great.

May be a bit of a tall order, but the Hellenic Diaspora is a resourceful group.

I have noticed, at least based on the people I have met, not Greeks from Greece, but American and Canadian Greeks tend to socialize with and form romantic relationships within their own culture. I know there are other races that do that, but Greeks stand out, because they are commonly seen as "pure-breeds" most often/prominently. I always wondered why that was?? Are there any other reasons besides the obvious need to preserve their "pure-greek" status or culture?

Will be arriving in Athens June 17th and spending two weeks visiting the above destinations. There are three of us going and have not booked any accommodation. Will accommodation be easy enough to find when we are there (not peak season) or should we pre-book. Any suggestions on budget places to stay would be appreciated too. Thanks
