I agree with above. Santorini is small, so you might want to pre-book. I've been to Crete, and is large enough that you should have no problem findings accommodations. Just as an aside you might want to consider going to Rhodes instead of Crete, unless there is a specific reason to go to Crete. I've been to both I without a doubt (to me) Rhodes is better.

By all means, go ahead and book your hotels. Assuming you are flying into Athens, the airport is some distance out of the city, so if you take the Metro in (which has a station right at the airport) or if you decide to take a taxi in, you kinda need to know where you're going. Like another writer wrote, you don't want to be schlepping your bags around on a hot summer day, trying to find a place in your price range. Go ahead and book your room so you won't have that hassle when you get here. Another thing about carrying bags around in Athens is that traffic is dense and cars park wherever they can find space, which is often partially on sidewalks, perhaps blocking your path. And, as much as I love it here, many of the sidewalks are in disrepair...anyway, trust me...you will be doing yourself a big favor if you book in advance. For budget accommodations, I can only guess that most hotels near the tourist destinations (the Plaka, Monastiraki, Psirri, Glyfada, etc.) are not going to be cheap. If you expand your radius a bit (still within the city of Athens), you might find a better deal...but then try to find a place very close to a Metro station, to make it easier to get around. There is a rather basic but very clean and decent hotel on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue, just north of the U.S. Embassy, called the Athinais Hotel. It is not far from the Megaro Moussiki Metro stop and, when I reserved a room there last spring for some friends, they were completely satisfied with it and with the rate. Best of luck and enjoy your trip!

I dont know bout u , but i've always preferred to have my bookings confirmed ahead.Coz i wudnt wanna be "stuck" wid no place to stay, carrying my luggages.Least i have a peace of mind when i arrive at a foreign country.U can easily google up budget hotels in Athens,Santorini & Crete.U wud just need some time to decide what hotels/hostels that wud suit ur budget.Besides,if u decide that u dont like the hotel that u chose ( when ur there ) , u can always check out & check into another hotel.( shouldnt be a problem if its non peak) When i travel around,i usually book with hotel club, they offer pretty good offers especially on their last minute offers.U can get a 4-5star hotel which usually cost an arm & leg with just a fraction of the price.Good luck & happy hunting!

I went to Greece a few years ago and usually you don't have to book ahead of time. There are a lot of places to stay, especially in the tourist areas. I went for the month of July and there were rooms in most hotels. In Athens I stayed in the Metropolitan. I have no idea what it costs/night but if the three of you share a room it will be affordable. It's a beautiful hotel. I also stayed at the Olympia hotel in Athens. It is more old fashion and the staff are strange but it was ok.
Santorini I would plan on booking ahead of time. On Santorini there are a lot of toursits who usually stay for more than a few days. There I would definately book ahead of time. Crete I've never been to, so I can't say.

i think of which you're able to do the internet sites in Crete speedier in case you prefer to work out extra island... yet because of the fact it extremely is a few distance away it extremely is beneficial to easily stay there and then see Santorini and bypass Naxos. I did love Naxos and located it a precious internet site, so in case you prefer to try this, then do no longer do plenty in Crete... such as you ought to bypass Iraklio and in basic terms stay on the western end of the island and notice Hania and the Samaria Gorge. additionally... if I have been attempting to have a romantic time, i might heavily fly into the Athens airport, yet then take a boat from Rafina (close to the airport) and don't even circulate into Athens... heavily, bypass it thoroughly! do exactly the islands, they are captivating and elementary to return and forth on... Athens is a hassle and the only ingredient to work accessible it is "needed" is the acropolis... and the national museum is stable too, yet you are able to circulate to a museum everywhere... the islands are quite unique.

There are places to stay, but booking in advance will help you because if you haven't booked you may have to go around carrying your suitcases for some time looking for a hotel. Most hotels and studios or rooms are on the internet nowadays, so check a site like www.hotels.gr or similar or type "Santorini hotels" on your search engine for example and see if you can find something that suits you.

The best way to visit the places you want and have fun without caring to find accommodation is to book ahead of time. There are several travel agencies who can propose a package for you that will include transfers, hotels and transportation. This way everything will be pre-arranged and in most case no more expensive than doing this by yourself
