I was in Santorini last September and it is an incredibly beautiful spot. September and early October are great times to visit, after the summer peak, or early spring (May or June) before the European summer holiday season begins. There are unbelievable views of the volcano and smaller islands from the main village. The charm of the classic white stucco buildings is picture post card perfect. I recommend a day cruise that is offered by some of the local travel agencies. It begins in the morning and makes multiple stops at the volcano and other small islands for touring and swimming. It includes meals and doesn't return to Santorini until late in the evening.

I've gone to Santorini twice - it was easily my favorite place among the islands I visited. I would agree that either June or September are great times to go. Days are still hot, nights cool off a little. We took a ferry from Athens when we went. It's a bit of a long ride (6 hrs), but it was a lot cheaper than flying over. I do know that there are puddle hoppers over to the island. If you go through a travel agent you may be able to work out a deal to get both flights. Have fun!

May or September. But better September, because May the sea will still be cold. June will be fine too.
