As a movie I liked it. It gave you the amazing feeling that you were reading a book. It was grate and I liked it a lot.

Notwithstanding the several historical inaccuracies (it is a movie after all; not a text book) I cannot say that it was an advertisement for Ancient Greeks.
The Spartans were not the best thing Ancient Greece has to offer, in fact they were a poor example of Greeks, shunned even by their contemporaries.

I will stand on one small part of the movie where the Lacaedemonians meet the Arcadians and Leonidas makes a point that his 300 are better than the Arcadian troops because they were trained soldiers while the Arcadians were potters and blacksmiths etc etc. That’s exactly the point! Greek armies were NOT professional standing armies. They were armies of citizens defending (of attacking for) their country. Soldering was not their main interest.

Athenians were much more cultured, educated, and liberal while their patriotism and valour in the battlefield was equal to that of the Spartans.
To my opinion the battle of Marathon was a greater military achievement than the battle of Thermopiles, and the Salamina battle even greater.
In fact, speaking of the Persian wars it was Athens that carried the burden of defense not Sparta.

I did see the movie, and I thought it was terrible. The dialog was some of the worst I'd ever heard, and the underlying storyline was completely botched.

That said, it has lots of great action and eye candy. Younger people are sure to be excited about it. And while I don't think it advertises modern Greece per se, it might make people interested in finding out more about ancient Greece and Sparta.

I saw the movie but did not like it much, because I was not prepared to see a comic-like film, it is a great work though (post productionally speaking). Of course exageration prevails as in comic books.

It does not need much advertising in Greece, provided we all want to watch this film.

Movie is about one of the greatest stories of mankind. I don't see why should "advertising of Greece" be a problem, since most of the movies advertise USA for example. I don't see why Iranians bother, they don't even are real descendants of Persians, and after all, Persians were the ones who came to attack Greece, and lost.
I plan to see a movie and looking forward to it.

Can't wait to see it. And there's lots of scope for advertising Greece, there's a million more ledgends. Anybody out there want to make Jason and the Argonauts again? Minotaur? That crazy lady with snakes for hair... Medusa, I think her name was?

It was a GREAT movie,at the end I felt the need to applause,
it was way much better than I expected it to be...
And indeed it advertises Greece, too much in my opinion...
Even if it was written by Greeks,it would do it less!!!

But bottomline is it s great.I would definitely see it again.

Its really really fantastic........... and it does 'advertise' ancient Greece. But then, Ancient Greece was a fascinating era too!

Have not seen it and I refuse to see Hollywood superproductions that distort history for the sake of more palatable story lines to a naive public.
