I need a 1 or 2 BR within driving distance to the mall (plaza las americas) and would like to be close to a decent beach. all the places i've seen online are vacation rentals, which make them fairly expensive. i've looked at rent.com and apartments.com but they dont list PR apts for some reason. Also, what are the pet policies for PR? I have a box turtle I want to take. I know Hawaii is fairly strict on their policy about animals being taken to/from the island because of environmental issues.

I will be moving to Puerto Rico in about 7-8 months. I am the type of person who likes to plan way in advance so I've already started to look at areas to live in, apartment rentals, etc. I have a car right now, but it would take about $2000 to ship it, plus another $2000 to pay the taxes once I get there. Is it more economical to sell my car and buy one once I get there? Do I even need a car at all? Any help would be appreciated. Also, do I need to get a PR driver's liscence and tags if I do ship my car? Thanks in advance!

My husband is taking a post in San Juan with the State Dept. We'll be moving this June. Our kids will go to the schools on the Army base. We've been told location is everything. Right now our eye is on Bayamon to rent a house. Do you have any advice on Bayamon or any other areas close by?

I am flying into San Juan, Puerto Rico and wondered if most of the Taxi drivers speak English. I know enough Spanish to get me by, but I was hoping a Taxi driver's English would be better than my Spanish.

Im not Puerto Rican but i live here in San Juan. Do u think the US should keep sending the shitload of money they send when Puerto Ricos not a state. By the way the Geography and nature are beautiful. Then again i have heard some people say that too many people live on wellfare. What do you think and i heard this from middle class puerto ricans.

I've heard many people on tv say that English would be a major issue for Puerto Rican statehood since hardly anyone there speaks it well, but I read that English is taught in schools from an early age until high school graduation, so I would assume that most Puerto Ricans would be fairly decent at it, right? What is the truth here? How easy is it for English-speaking people to work and live in the area?
