I am about to go to Abu Dhabi to undertake a contract for a few months and was wondering if anyone had some places of cultural interest which were not on the tourist routes. Any fishing? Anything which is non-touristy?

Through Arab media, I have heard of of dark stories of out-of-control rentals and purchases, scaring expats away. How risky is it to try to make a new life in Dubai?

I'm an American, and already accustomed to getting anything I want. But I'm attracted to the international opportunities I hear so much about.
