Africa & Middle East - March 2007

I want to go on holiday to the Concorde El Salam Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt and I just want to know if my skin colour (I'm about Naomi Campbell's complexion) will pose a problem to the people there. The resort looks amazing but I don't want to go somewhere where I'm stared at and looked down upon. Thanks!

I am an American planning a trip to Egypt and want to relax on a beautiful beach for the last few days of my trip. I was thinking about going to Dahab, but am apprehensive because of the bombings in 2006. Any thoughts on this?

Also, what about going to Sidi Abdel Rahman? Any opinions?

I was considering looking for a job with Saudi Aramco, but with current events the way they are, I can't help but think it's dangerous for westerners. I have heard its not wise for American's to go there.

By the way I am Canadian, although it is almost impossible to visually separate a Canadian from an American.

I confess, I'm very ignorant as far as Israel is concerned. When I think of Israelites, I think of the nomadic society of the Bible fame. I've also heard bits about the eternal war and whatnot, which definitely doesn't portray Israel as a nation.

I'm only curious because the many people from Israel I know speak good English and seem to be "modern." Anyone knows a reliable website about Israel?

I have posted a few questions so far already about me and my boyfriend and our plan to go to Lebanon this summer. About 2 weeks ago, my boyfriend's mother had a heart attack, and he went back to Lebanon by his self. This is going to cause numerous problems with his visa, and it is going to be a mess but it is something that he had to do, and I am glad he went over to be with her as she is recovering.

This is not really a question, so much as he has asked me to come over this summer by myself. As in I will leave Ohio (where I live) and fly to New York (Connecting flight) and then either connect in France or England to then go to Lebanon. I have never been out of North America, and I have never ever in my life traveled anywhere by myself. This whole idea really terrifies me. I was just wondering, how difficult that people who have flown from the USA to Lebanon has found it. Most of the flights we found are through a company called Alitalia.

First, could you tell me what name do you use for numbers like 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9, Arabic or Indian (Hindu)? Also, what name do you use for those other numbers you use (something like ٠.١.٢.٣.٤.٥.٦.٧.٨.٩, maybe those are not exactly the ones you use, but I found only these on the net to do copy/paste). So, could you tell me what names you use for the ones and for the others?

Another thing, is it true that a girl keeps her last name after she marries and she doesn't take her husband's at all. If it is, is it only for Egyptian girls or for all Arabic girls. If it is for all Arabic girls, then how come The Queen Rania of Jordan has the name of her husband like her last name (as far as I know)?

Also, some people explained to me that Arabic people don't have last names like Westerners, that is, they don't have family names, but they take their father's and grandfather's name as their last name. On the other hand, I heard there are family names.
