A few questions for Egyptian people...?

Question

First, could you tell me what name do you use for numbers like 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9, Arabic or Indian (Hindu)? Also, what name do you use for those other numbers you use (something like ٠.١.٢.٣.٤.٥.٦.٧.٨.٩, maybe those are not exactly the ones you use, but I found only these on the net to do copy/paste). So, could you tell me what names you use for the ones and for the others?

Another thing, is it true that a girl keeps her last name after she marries and she doesn't take her husband's at all. If it is, is it only for Egyptian girls or for all Arabic girls. If it is for all Arabic girls, then how come The Queen Rania of Jordan has the name of her husband like her last name (as far as I know)?

Also, some people explained to me that Arabic people don't have last names like Westerners, that is, they don't have family names, but they take their father's and grandfather's name as their last name. On the other hand, I heard there are family names.

if you ask about writing numbers , we use ٠.١.٢.٣.٤.٥.٦.٧.٨.٩, when we write in arabic though these numbers are indian in origin ,,, on the other hand we don't use the form 1234567.. in arabic articles though it's arabic in origin

it's true that the woman doesn't take her husband name after marriage , she keeps hers , but i don't know about other arabic countries , because she may take it in another one , i can't help you here , & maybe because she is the queen , for that cause they give her her husband name , like the first woman in Egypt , her name is suzan mubarak , after her husband prisedent of Egypt , husni mubarak , did u get what i wana say ?

we take our father's name , & our father gets his father's name , etc till u reach the grand grand father & that would be the family name , of course we don't reach our great grandfathers , it's just a matter of generations, for example , if my name is samar , my dad name is mohammad , & my grand father is abdullah , then my recent grand grand father which they called the family after his name was called al shereef so my name would be >> samar mohammad abdullah al shereef in the government files or for simplicity my name will be pronounced samar al shereef when my friends wana call for me

In almost all the arab countries girls take the husband family names, but there are exceptions.
Arabic people have last names...of course...but. is common that kids take the name of the father between their name and the last name.
example
ur name is fedi ahmad and ur father's name youssef
so, it will be like that
fedi youssef ahmad
ur name+ur father's name+ur sure name

The numbers we use in Arabic are Ù .Ù¡.Ù¢.Ù£.Ù¤.Ù¥.Ù¦.Ù§.Ù¨.Ù© (pronunciation as mentioned in above answers) not all the people know that this numbers originally are Indian, so it may confuse them when they know that 1234 which is used in English are the Arabic numbers which used instead of the Latin numbers that was used in Latin based languages before the Arabic numbers.

About the names : yes the reason that women keeps their names after marriage was Islam, so not only Arab girls. Women like the queen or the first lady may use their husbands' names just as it's used in the protocol and other related matters, but in their papers they have their fathers' names.
Although family names in Egypt are used, but not officially like many western countries. In almost all the Arab countries family names are used while fathers' names are used also.
In Egypt it's not used officially as many families just use one of the grand fathers names for the family name.

it is true that a woman keeps her own last name after marriage and does not use her husband's name. I believe this exists in most Arabic and Muslim countries not Egypt only. However, it is not a big deal, a woman, like Queen Rania can still be referred to with her husband's name but it does not necessairly mean that it's official. I'm married in Egypt and my official name is my own, however, once I go back to USA, I could keep my name or change to my husband's name, so it's a matter of choice. But when being married in Egypt, the wife's name stays the same.

we do have family names. However, father's and grandfather's names are most commonly used amongest people unlike in western countries where last names are used. In Egypt, what matters the most and what is usually written on official papers is first name, father's name, then grandfather's name. We do have a last name but it is not used as much. When I was in USA I used my last and first name only. When I moved to Egypt I started using dad and grandpa's names because I saw people doing the same. The numbers confuses me. We learn the (Hindu) numerals as Arabic. but the real Arabic numerals are referred to as "not arabic" numerals. We use the Hindi. so i can't help you in numerals.
Generally, the married women keep the names of their fathers, unless she wants to do otherwise, and it happens sometimes (a ritual affected from westerners). I think it applies to all Arabs.

Yes us girls keep our own last names and do not take our husbands, the only reason queen rania might've did that is simply because she's a queen and is known to more non arabic people than the typical arabic girl, making it more comfortable I guess for those from different backgrounds to call her by her husbands last name rather than her own.
As for my self I have one of the longest names ever, it's my name than dad's, then grandpa's.........all the way till we reach extra super great great grandpa whose name is also the family's last name

for the 1st question, the 1st range of numbers are arabic numbers, and the other are hindu,
many poeple are confused, they think the opposit, because the gulf and abaric countries are still using them...
concerning the 2dn question, yes, women keep them family name after marriage, in Islam, the woman should'nt change her name at all...i don't know if teh legislation in Jordan is the same as my country, Morocco, and as Egypte, i can't give you more details concerning the queen Rania...
well, concerning family names, it depends on countries, in Egypte for exp, they use "esm tolati", that means, your first name+your father's +ur grandfather's..
but some families got family name, i don't have an explication for this because i'm not egyptina
in Morocco, everyone has a family name, it has nothing to do with the father's name
but in some cases, like marriage acts....they use this form"first name son of "you father's name"
for exemple if ur name is nadia, and ur father's name is amine, your name will be nadia bent(daughter of) amine

First, the 1,2,3,4,5,6...etc. are originally Arabic numbers...Arabs long time ago used to use them but when the islamic empire reached India, Arabs found the Hindu numbers Ù .Ù¡.Ù¢.Ù£.Ù¤.Ù¥.Ù¦.Ù§.Ù¨.Ù©, so they began using them too. Later Europe used our letters as their own...Second, Egyptians aren't accustomed to either last names or wife's husband's last name. We rarely use them, as Egyptians talking ! Mrs Suzan Mubarak, Egypt's first lady, and Queen Rania use their husbands' last name only in their official meetings and confrences.

1....that are arabig numbers. (the first ones) are used in almost all the world and came from arabic numbers.( second ones).yes, in all the arab countries are used the second ones, in spite of that the ones are well known also, and some pple use them

For example..........let's say that a man 's name is Fady Habib.......his son name is..Wael..so the kid will be Wael Fady Habib. the kid has his own name, but to add his father name is a kind of identification , as saying that is Fady's son . That happen with the daughters too.. The daughter of Fady which name could be zeynab.....would be for example... Zeynab Fady Habib........Do you understand?
