Also keeo in mind that Jerusalem's status as the 3rd holiest site for Islam is a rather new distinction while it has been a holy place for Jews for over 3000 yrs.

Mohammad of Islam never stepped foot in Jerusalem or Israel. His claim by followers of Islam is his travel there in a dream.

Jerusalem is holy because the G-d of the Hebrews and now of the Christians has made it so.

In response to the last post, I would remind the readers that the Dome of the Rock is built upon the "Temple Mount" because that is where the Temple once stood, i.e. the Dome of the Rock is built on the ruins of the Temple. So no, you don't need to destroy holy sites to prove existence, that's already been done. I would also like to point out that there is an overwhelmingly popular belief in the Muslim world that the Jewish Temple never stood. This is absurd, as both Jewish and Roman historians make mention of it, There are written texts describing it that existed before Muhammad was even born. It is shameful for people to deny factual history, and even worse when they go and actively destroy archeaological evidence. In response to the previous post I would also like to point out that Jerusalem is considered the third holiest city to Islam, while being first and foremost to Judaism. If there are more Muslim holy sites, a distinct possibility, then that is because Jerusalem has not been in Jewish hands for a long time, and the previous caretakers had a habit of suppresing other religions and co-opting holy sites.
In response to the question, I know only of the Dome of the Rock and the al-Aqsa Mosque. They may be considered the same compound.

Mecca is the holiest Islamic city, i believe. though to answer your question as far as i know the only holy Islamic site in Jerusalem, is the Dome of Rock. Where Muhamed kicked that rock before going to heaven i think.

Who told you it is three, there are many holy places for the Muslims, and Jerusalem itself is the third holy city for the Muslims, Al-Aqsa mosqe, the Dome of the rock which is near to AlAqsa mosque, many Islamic graveyards, almarwany mosque… etc.

I think you asked the wrong question. Jersualem is the Third holiest site in the Muslim faith. Mecca and Madina are the first two.

Read the begining of the part 15 of Quran wat it says......it talks about the Mosque Al-Aqsa and also tells the reason for its importance and the reason as per Quranic words is that Allah kept blessings around it ....what are these blessings........it means the Graves of about 360 Prophets (Peace be upon them) around it.
