Tanzania is known for speaking the purest form of Swahili (especially in Zanzibar -- who wouldn't want to spend a few months there studying??). In Kenya, people still speak their own languages primarily so Swahili isn't necessarily the main language even if officially it is one of them...I've been told that the spoken Kenyan Swahili is often not as grammatically correct. Since the regional/local languages are so central to one's identify in Kenya, Swahili hasn't been used as much (especially with English being more and more dominant). Uganda is supposed to be another good place to learn but Tanzania is always citest as the best.

Of course, as someone mentioned, it all depends on the skills of your teacher but it's good to be in an area where you hear the proper version. I've had two friends/colleagues study in Tanzania for a year without complaints (one in Dar and one in Zanzibar).

You will find each country has a few different dialects or variations in the language. Tanzania is great and they say it is best place to learn, Kenya has a few differences and Uganda I believe they speak another language there, not a hundred percent sure though.
