Egyptian pounds for sure .. officially other currencies are not supposed to be used out of the hotel. When supermarkets, sellers and others accept other currencies that's for 2 reasons
1- To make it easy for you to buy from there anyway
2- Most probably he gets a higher rate of exchange as there will be no alternative and no small changes and may be you don't know the rate at that time.
Later when you understand that you'll be upset and no way to complain as it'll be your fault.
My advice is to keep always enough Egyptian pounds with you. change your currency starting from the first day and you can change everyday from the bank inside any 5 stars hotel later when you need. Always change from the bank otherwise you'll get a low rate for your currency and it's illegal at the same time.
Only the hotel rooms and your Tours or Excursions should be paid in your currency and the rest is with Egyptian pounds.

Most places in Sharm will accept either because of the high concentration of tourists there. But it is always best to work in the currency of the country you are in as some places are known to charge a "surcharge" for foreign currency because there is a fee for changing money at legitimate places. However, I agree with the person who said Sharm is boring. It does not paint an accurate picture of what Egypt really is. I recently spent 6 weeks in Egypt and flew to Sharm planning to spend 10 days there. I left after only 2 days to go back to Cairo. Unless you are really into diving (I'm not) there is nothing to do there and all you will see is European tourists. I used to live in Florida and it looked exactly the same. Also, things tend to get a bit more expensive in Sharm because there is less competition as opposed to Cairo.

Both are accepted - oddly when i arrived at the airport some of the places to get a visa wouldn't take egyptian pounds but if your english and use to the the pound the exchange rate is much easier to work out with the egyptian pound as it's 10:1.

neither just take your english pounds and get them changed when your out there
do not change in england you will get charged higher rate and probably commision. look arund when you get there some banks will charge commision and some dont. there will probably be a bank in your hotel but there are banks in narrma bay and in old town. so change a small amount at your hotel then go look around. and dont listen to the sad person who asked you why you are going. egypt is a great place, yes the touts are a pain, but best advice i can give you is smile say la shukran and be firm with out being rude. always bargain over your price and yes it is much moe expensive ther than the rest of egypt, but old town is cheaper and naarma bay is fun and the diving is out of this world. for a fun night out go to the fantasia but dont eat there
if you are amercian of course take dollars
