Hockey players are beating up the other team and fighting over a piece of rubber. Figure skaters actually have some skill on their blades.

what is the difference between junior and adult skis if they are the same height? I am 5'1", and 16 years old. when i went to my local ski shop to look at skis (to rent or buy), i was looking at a pair of juniors that were the right height, but he said that i'm not a "junior", and told me to look at a pair of adult skis that where the same height, except about $350 more.

so, whats the difference? is he just trying to get more money out of me...or are the junior skis really made differently so a 16 year old can't wear them?

Is it better to rent a snowboard and boots at a seperate shop or at the mountain the morning of? Only setback I can think of is waiting in horrific weekend lines at the resort.

I know there are a few posts about this but...
I've never been able to stay on a skateboard, never been surfing and generally am not so good with one board and two legs.
I was a competitive figure skater for 10 years, so I'm thinking that skiing would be a better choice for me.
I'd really appreciate some recommendations. Snowboarding sounds like tons of fun, but I am curious if I'm going to be frustrated because it will be too hard.

I need a size 15 at the least. I have not found them anywhere i go. they have to be kinda cheap since i would only go about once or twice a year. Custom boots is out of the picture. Also i would need a board that would fit too. I am 6'6" tall to give you a picture of the size of the board i would need.

I've only skiied one day in my life and really enjoyed it. I was riding blue slopes after a few hours.

Was wondering if I should get more experience skiing or should I give snowboarding a shot?

I'm going to a place in PA and the weather is starting to warm up so I may not have a second chance to try snowboarding.

Ok, historians of the Power-lifting world, I come to you and ask am I the only human on earth that is performing this feat without the use of foreign substances? See, this includes “Sport Nutrition!” I am totally “natural,” curling 180 pounds at the weight of 187 pounds. Historians, if you do know of anyone tell them, “I challenge them in my house!” I am the “Strongest Man in the World,” because of Jesus Christ! I challenge any man to curl more iron than me, to lift more iron than me, but see you must be totally “Natural” like me! But a Man like me may still compete; just to bust you up in my “House!!!”

I spend most of my time heel edging down the mountain and burn out my legs i know im expending too much energy for what should be an easy ride down the green. What am I doing wrong? Should I take a lesson? How do I get more control over the board so I dont feel the need to slow down using the heel slide technique?

i've skiied for 4 years and decided to start snowboarding. so i end up getting a one hour lesson. i ended up renting beginner equipment and did so well i got on a burton cruzer it was a 164 wide board. i linked turns and overall did well. i ended up snowboarding for a total of 6 hours. now i wear a size 15 boot maybe 14 depends on the boot. but the toe of it stuck out a good 2 inches from the board and the bindings were angled out to help a bit, im thinking of buying a board any suggestions. i was able to do greens w/ only a couple falls and some blues (thats beginner and intermediate trails). any suggestions? i dont want something so beginner that i will "outgrow", in terms of skill, the board and then have to buy another one. so looking into a beginner/intermediate all mountain board.

I have a theory and I want to see how everyone feels about it. I was always good at rollerblading, and I picked up ice skating and skiing really easily, but I really struggled with skateboarding and snowboarding. Other people find boarding easier than skiing and skating. So my theory is one person will be good at sports where their feet forward (skating and skiing) and another is better when their feet are parallel to each other but almost perpendicular to the direction they are going. What do you think?

a little info:
1. price range: <$450

2. currently a recreational intermediate skier (i.e. i can get down from black diamonds without too much trouble.), but I'd like to improve, and want to carve really well

3. i'm the slow and controlled type, though i'd like to work on speed on steep runs

4. usually ski groomed runs, but would like to explore as I get better

5. Preference: female specific light weight skis
