I spend most of my time heel edging down the mountain and burn out my legs i know im expending too much energy for what should be an easy ride down the green. What am I doing wrong? Should I take a lesson? How do I get more control over the board so I dont feel the need to slow down using the heel slide technique?

You need to also learn how to stop with your toeside. Heelside and toeside use different muscle parts of your leg. That way you won't be burning just one group of leg muscles, when you do both toeside and heelside.

If you haven't learned your toeside yet, get comfortable with it. Most beginners learn the heelside first, but once your you learn that, the next step is to work on your toeside. Do the "falling leaf" on your toeside. Then go straight and learn how to stop on your toeside. Then learn to connect your heelside and toeside turns. When you learn to connect your turns, you will be riding like S's now and you will be able to control your speed and be able to utilize all your different muscle leg groups more equally.

You should have taken a lesson the first time. Maybe you should try to get private lessons or ones in a very small group so that way they give you more attention.

Goodluck and keep snowboarding!

I used to have a similar problem to what you have but i felt more comfortable on my toe edge. So the first few times i snowboarded i used to do falling leaf on my toe edge 95% of the time, to the point that i could do falling leaf really well on my toe edge yet could barley ride at all on my heel edge. This was mainly due to my posture being totally off and me leaning back too much and constantly braking all the way down. Its probably a good idea to have a lesson as the problem you have is easily sorted you, just need someone to show you what you are doing wrong.

No worries, that's pretty normal, the reason your using your heel edge more is because it's your dominant leg. I remember I did the same exact thing when I first started. Only advice I have for you is to just practice going slow and trying to use your toe edge more. Usually it's nice to take a lesson the first time you go. After the lesson you'll sorta know the basics and then you can just perfect it on your own from there.

This is common for beginners as many other people have said. I used to do this. i would recomend being comfortable with your toe side edge, what I would recomend to do to help acomplish that is try to go down the run a few times just on your toe edge, dont go on your heel edge because that won't help you. AFter you have that down try to make an S turn many snowboarders can do this, watch them it will help. If you have the fear of going to fast try to go as fast as you can on your heel side edge then just imagine you are going downhill you don't have to go fast to make an S turn. It take practice so don't get discouraged if you fall. Try this on a run that isn't steep and that you are confident on, and just because you start to go fast on part of the turn don't get scared just know that there are three ways to slow down, falling, going to your toe side edge and completeing the turn and going back to your heel side edge and chickening out.

Work on heel side across the run, if you don't know how to turn, stop sit on the ground, do a commando roll, get up and go toe side back across the run, commando roll heel side... repeat all the way down. Always check that you're not gonna get run over
Yes you should take a lesson.

I would highly recommend a lesson, maybe even a few lessons so you at least learn how to toe turn, this is very important if you want to progress and get better. Lessons will get you doing everything the correct way and once you feel comfortable in your skills, you can work on technique and speed.

if by heeling u mean braking, then yeah that is very common for begginers so dont worry, its quite easy to fix, the only hard part is fear of going too fast. Once you conquer that fear and try wut im gunna tell you, you will improve. wut u wanna accomplish is something called carving, or another way of calling it is the S motion, meaning going the heel turn to the left, then (if you are a regular) leaning your weight onto your front foot, going onto your toes, turning your body towards the right, bend your knees, arm pointing in that direction, and soon you will go that way onto your toe, then as go, switch to heel, turn body, knees still bend, weight still on front foot, pointing that direction, lean back juuuust a little(you wont fall back because your knees are bent) and you will go that way, and just try that first and see where it goes

Try going down toe slide. It is less painful. You will eventually need to learn it to carve. Snowboarding takes time..and guts..if you fall..you fall..dont be a chicken.
Do a Z down the slope.
