Now to summer. Most shops need to clear out their 06' inventory.
Sport Chalet has all ski gear at 30% off. I bought my girlfriend some K2 Tru Luv ski for $400 with bindings today. Good Luck

A couple of years ago all I wanted was a new pair of Rossignol Banit XX's. I wasn't earning very much at the time, so I could only put them on my wish list. When they came out with the new B2's I happened to go into my local ski shop and the XX's were then 1/2 price (this was in the summer). My brother also bought his new Atomics out of season as well... might have been late summer or early fall. If you know what kind of skis you want then this is a good time to shop. If you're beginning it is probably a good idea to rent first - make sure you like the sport and its cheaper to rent than to buy... especially if you get on the slopes and the new skis you just bought don't fit your style!

I think you should go to a ski shop and buy skis in september. You get fitted and you fet the skis that fit you best. I wounldn't buy them online because you don't get to try them on before buying. And at stores you get profesional help. September is a good time because ski season starts in December and if you go any later than that, the stores might be all out. Good Luck!

Never buy skis or equipment in the winter, always buy gear in the summer months when it is hot as hell outside, no one is thinking about skiing then.
Ebay has great deals if you know what you are looking for, I bought my k2 Apache X skis last summer for $300 with bindings.

out of season, I would rent if your a beginner as most start out with shorter skis then get longer ones when you better.
