the truth about ma isn't about beating someone up. thats narrow minded. ma is self discovery , exercise ,self defence, among others. Shaolin martial arts should be givin proper respect. aswell as japanese, korean, thai ,isreali, brazil. but shaolin is and has deep roots. if not for people like them noone would know ma. the thing about range i said, for a wing chun man that is his range and you got chi sau all wrong. its an exercise that does increase sensitivity, but also works on footwork and mastering the centerline. the center is what is important to him. but thats besides the point ufc fighters are great fighters but in real life sitaution they won't have rules. then nature is to take its corse. but skill over strength should't be just tossed to the side. the point was you shoutn't call your self a m.artist and bash a style. Martial arts meant to stop fighting. respect one another. and the place we live, not argue about pointless opinions. I respect you but not what you said

I've been doing Karate for a few months and enjoy it a lot. The lower belts like yellow and green seem a guaranteed pass because they're so simple but at which level do people start to fail gradings, assuming that you go to a good school that doesnt fix it and pass everyone?

What constitutes martial arts? Only the styles that originated in Asia, for they are the ones that have been overly popularized as of late, or also including the traditional European styles, such as Fiore Dei Liberi's hand to hand, Lichtenhauer's longsword, Talhoffer's poleaxe of Saviolo's sword and dagger?

So ,where does the definition of martial arts begin? As any form of combattive training? Formalized training? Someone claiming that he knows a better way to kick somone's **** up between his ears?

And where does the definition end? When weapons are drawn, which would contradict Miyamoto Musashi's Book of Five Rings or Johannes Lichtenhauer's verses? When armies are involved, which would contradict Sun Tzu and Musashi? Or when firearms are involved, which would draw flak from any serious shooter out there?

Question 1.

I want to learn either of or combination of capoeira, kung - fu, tae kwon do, is learning these martial arts from the internet at just practicing in the backyard or at a gym with a punching bag or something daily effective, if it is can someone reccomend some good websites to go to that are FREE, where i can learn them. If its only half effective or something, i don't care as long as it is somewhat effective. FREE is of greatest importance.

Question 2.

Can a professional wrestler beat an professional martial artists, i mean wrestling is different from martial arts, so is it still possible to compare, martial art focuses on speed, and accuracy i think and to me wrestling is focusing on strength and stamina, am i right?

Europe also has a long and proud martial arts tradition, one that is well documented at that. However, whenever most people think of getting into martial arts, they seek to learn asian styles and blind themselves to a whole different chapter of the fighting arts.

Can anyone tell me why only a small fraction of martial artists worldwide follow the traditions set by the European masters such as Talhoffer, Ringeck, Vadi and Lichtenhauer (to name but a few)? And why so many would turn their backs on a martial tradition that is just as great?

Why do i see 10 year olds or 14 or 16 year olds with black belts, second degree blackbelts,, or even higher. I have a feeling these american karate instructors are using belts in order to attract customers, but karate is a life process, they can't possibly master the true essence of karate in just 4 years or something..and certainly at 16 a master...without having had maturity? I will consider a master at 40 or 50, after years of training and developing spiritually not at 10 years old.

I can't find an artical about it on UFC.com or anything does anyone have any info? And it was supposed to be in Nov. but the Matt Hughes v St. Pierre is in Nov.

I heard that Silva asked for more money and Chuck found out and then he asked for more money.
I also heard Pride and UFC couldn't agree on legal stuff.

If this is true do you think they stopped the fight as a business saving technique if they start letting Pride fighters come in and they beat up the UFC guys then UFC would loose fans to Pride and not make as much money, because let's face it Pride fighters for the most part are better than UFC fighters(as much as I hate to admit it) What do ya know? tell me!!!

What did you think about the fight and did you have a prediction? I knew Ken was going down the same way he did last time. I have respect for Ken but he is out of fighters mojo. Tito looked real good in the fight and I think he might do alright against Chuck Liddell in Dec. Despite being knocked out by Chuck the last time they fought Tito is a superb all around fighter. He trains in high altitude so hopefully his training regimen will pay off. It sure made beating Ken look easy.

#1 it's a shaolin martial art #2 its close courters not long range. un less you think long range is the way to go. But if you come across a real wing chun man that will just be slower and slower the farther you get . #3 do you even know what chi sau is. #4 yes they have full contact sparring and if they don't that school sucks.remember Its not a fancy style but its the one of the most affective. but anyways what style do you respect?

Would it really make sense to train for real world fighting in any other style other than Mixed Martial Arts, meaning a blend of boxing, Muay thai, and submission hold grappling? Time and time again it has been proven that well-rounded fighters will whup a single style over and over. Why train in a single style for street defense??
