I am anything but a soccer buff, but since it is currently so popular I thought I may take an interest. I know that when the tournament strated back in June there were 32 teams. How do teams advance to the next round. How many games do they need to win, and is there a playoff tree or something similiar to basketball?

I feel so sad for teams who did not make it to the final having to drag their *** back to the field for some meaningless match. Hell Who remembers the 3rd place winners? Except the last world cup maybe if u have good memory.

I heard that in Germany, people are in war.
Some people use Adidas, while othe rpeople use Puma.
France v Italy will represent the war.
Because French Team wears adidas and Italian Team wears Puma.

What do you support, Adidas or Puma?

If you could have dinner with 10 World Cup stars from 2006...who would you pick? What would be one question you would ask each?

1. Michael Ballack -
"Are you going to be in World Cup 2010? I sure hope so! ....and are you married?"

2. Cristiano Ronaldo-
"Why does your team cheat so much?"

3. David Beckham-
"Why did you marry ugly Posh Spice? err...I mean....weren't you embarrased when you threw up?"

4. Zinadine Zidane-
"How come you are the only ones that can beat Brazil? That's very awesome..Thank you."

5. Frank Lampard-
"How come you never scored?"

6. Jens Lehman-
"How did if feel beating Argentina.. who were already claiming themselves champions?"

7. Francesco Totti-
"How could you celebrate that penalty goal when you knew you cheated Australia?"

8. Luis Figo-
"Did you know..what goes around comes around?"

9. Luca Toni-
"Why do you do that hand gesture when you score a goal?"

10. Ronaldinho-
"How come you would always lick your lips during the anthem? that was gross"

He is presentlybeing torn apart by the press in England. To me it seems that he is the scapegoat. Seriously what did they expect him to do? Was he not defending his team? It's not anything that hasn't been seen before. I think this will only serve to stir up animosity between English fans and Cristiano.

I mean if there are always controversies if it was offside or not, and if there would be more goals if they take it .

Looking at these teams I am going with
1 Portugal
2 Argentina
3 Brazil
4 Germany
Somewhere between 5 and 32 Canada will qualify.

Stop bashing portugal. Just beacuse they have knocked you out 2 years in a row, doesn't mean you should hate them. If the better team bet portugal when they played France, then the better team bet England. Besides Portugal NEVER benefited from a Penalty, every goal exept for one was earned. every game was earned. English fans loved Ronaldo when he went to Manchester, and now because his team knocked out England, all of a suden hes the number 1 enemy. Lets face it England has a good team, they have really good playears, but so does Spain, Argentina, Brazil and so on.. England was never going to make it to the final, they didn't play enough to be there. Neither should the 2 teams that are there, but that is in part to the officials. Diving is a part of soccer, it's up to the officials to get rid of it, not the players.

Assuming the specific team you support makes it to those next World Cup finals, of course.
I predict it will be Germany.

Some players even coatches are resigning from their positions after their team lose. Isn't it a bit too drastic? If the fans can still come for the rest of championship and cheer for some other teams that are in play (as some bought tickets earlier) wearing own uniforms and bearing flags, why don't a team members suck it up and endure humiliation? Or it is better to make a spot for new blood?
