unfortunately this is common place in all sports nowadays. it is very unsporting and players need to be disciplines severly for doing this. You don;t have to respect them, sooner or later the soccer community will not respect them and the player will lose his stature amongst footballers.

You don't have to respect anyone you don't want to. The answer is simple, respect those who deserve your respect i.e. the players who don't constantly flop and fake injuries because, although many players have been known to play up an injury to draw a call, not every player does.

Well its not just the World Cup. Soccer players do it anytime they can, especially in key matches. As long as it eats up the clock, and helps their team win, its ok to them.
As for respecting World Cup players, i dont think anybody has to do that. Its just a game. Besides, if flopping and faking wasnt bad enough, what about the fights (i.e. Deutschland and Argentina).

i think most of the players that do dive and fake still deserve respect... i mean after all, these guys are the greatest in the world and all the faking stuff has just become part of the game....i actually think its kind of funny......and its not a big deal if u have a good ref on the pitch........if u have a crappy ref then thats when it gets unfair
as long as the players dont dive every time they get touched, ill still respect them

Yeah, good point, but some of them have at least 60% of team that plays fair. Plus can you imagine buying expensive ticket and sitting in heat to support your players, but then one wrong move and your entire nation's respect goes down the drain. I say, we keep our minds open and do respect players if nothing for the sake of the participating in event that brings all us together. Look wider, keep brighter.

there is nothing wrong with a exaggeration of a foul, but outright diving has become part of the game and, especially on the international level, it is getting worse and worse as the years pass. now many teams teach it (cough...portugal...cough) and encourage it so it is up to the refs to call it, card the diver, and stop it
