Anderson was one of my favorite all time players. I was just looking at his stats, and noted that in 1996 he hit 50 homers and had 110 rbi. His second highest yearly hr total was 24, and rbi total was 81! Has anyone heard any explanation for that one monster power year?
I am not accusing him, I loved the way he played, but cannot wrap my brain around that year he had... any thoughts?

Barry Bonds is the best there ever is, best there ever was, and the best there ever will be. He is without of a doubt the best batter ever in baseball. Arguably, the best player in baseball (if you think batters are better than pitchers) . He is the only player to hit over 70 home runs in a single season and will have the all-time home run record (99% probably). Only thing that can stop him is injury or criminal proceedings, because MLB will not do anything without criminal proceedings. Barry Bonds is the best there ever is, best there ever was, and the best there ever will be.

I coach a team that has 12 boys on it (age 7 & 8) 3 of the boys are consistently hitting the ball very well and I would consider them my power bats, the other 9 players are good solid base hitters. How would you advise placing the 3 boys in the batting line up?

build parks with massive dimensions with Astroturf, then assemble teams that consist of a bunch of fast guys with average talent and some pitchers who throw strikes?

Wouldn't that allow them to at least win most of their games at home? Let's see the Red Sox come to town and try and play Manny and Willy Mo Pena in the outfield in a park like that! Let's see how far putting Barry Bonds in left field, or Mike Piazza at catcher would get a visiting team.

Sure, they'd probably still suck on the road, but at least they wouldn't lose 100 games a year anymore... and just maybe they would generate some excitement.

I never understand why these small market teams try and play the same brand of baseball as everybody else. Why don't they ever try and do something creative? Can anyone shed some light on this?

I am a fan of neither team but for arguments sake and to tame some of these Yankee fans, let's debate. I am of a strong opinion that good pitching beats good hitting. That said:
Mussina vs. Schilling-edge Boston.
Wang vs. Papelbon-edge Boston.
Petitte vs. Beckett-edge Boston.
Igawa vs. Dice-K- big edge Boston.
Krastens/Pavano vs Lester/ Wakefield-edge Boston.
Not even close IMO.

I heard of a pitch recently refered to the Ephus pitch? What is it, who threw it, and how do you throw it? Any more information, will be welcomed.
