After watching ABC's William & Harry interview. I kept hearing that Prince William will be the next king of the Wales. It was my understanding that once a king dies, that the oldest son would be king. I thought that once Queen Elizabeth's father, Prince Albert ( King Geo VI ) died, that Charles, their oldest son would be king. What happened ?

Coats of arms were issued to individuals who passed them on to their sons. There are no laws n the U. S. regarding heraldry and there are companies that sell them based solely on a surname. Does everyone know that not everyone with the same surname comes from the same root? There was a time when people did not have surnames and they took the name of their occupation, habitation, or their name indicated they were the son of a person say for instance John. However, a lot of guys named John had sons. There were a lot of cooks, taylor, clerks(clarks) smiths and they were not all related. There were a lot of guys living on a hill, not just Sam. Do you know that many coats of arms have the same name? About 200 for Lewis. The companies that sell them will only have one for any name because they just need to sell the one to every gullible person that is looking for their "family crest," which is a misnomer for a coat of arms.

Ever noticed it? Look at pictures of Queen Elizabeth when she was younger. Then of course you have William and Harry who all the girls want (and come to think of it, they never had like any acne either...). You'll see a picture perfect shot of any monarchy waving from a balcony.

Is this because they have bred to promote good genes, or just an imagined coincidence like the idea of "sympathy pain"?

As I read the many questions and concerns about the Royals? I do agree, they are living a life style which is beyond the norm of living. When thinking that million's of British citizen perhaps live on the existence minimum. So does your Democracy give you not the Right to condemn them? They are of no use any way. And don't give me that grap about the Tourist Attraction. Tourists come to Britain for many reasons, not because of the Royals. LOL

What educational standards have members of the Royal Family achieved - especially Charles, Anne, Andrew, Edward, William and Harry. We are in disagreement about their success (or otherwise!) as some believe they have done particularly well and others believe they may have got into Uni on false pretences!

like bump into them in a coffee shop or a club or somewhere?? Would it just be a matter of where you are at the time?? I don't mean if you live tere, cause your chances might be higher bumping into them, i mean if people are there for a holiday and just visiting. Just curious, thanks.

and she's only done it once. Meanwhile, Queen lookalike Jeanette Charles has been doing it for years, and she hasn't got so much as a pat on the back. Once again, it's one rule for Dames, and another rule for bank manager's wives who bear a passing.

Please advise.

I object to hereditary morarchy on grounds of equality of opportunity. Here is a public job which there can be no equality of opportunity to occupy. But I have two more specific points.

Charles breaks from the tradition of dull and nondescript monarchy which has been the benign and inoffensive pattern since George V. I can imagine George VI, the late Queen Mother, the Princess Royal or the Queen queuing in Tesco before racing back to the Palace to use their Tupperware. They would hardly stand out among the hordes of ageing middle-class shoppers. But Charles with his perfectly tailored suits and 50-years out of date accent is a social anachronism.

The other point is that he uses his position to express and promote idiosyncratic views on architecture and the environment (among other things) which would never make the local rag without the royal imprimatur.

He's a slightly able, well-meanng sort. I couldn't possibly dislike him. But I don't want Charles III R on my coins.
