No. I really enjoyed his music & he seemed like a genuinely good guy but, at the end of the day, he was a musician & I am sure there are many more deserving of honours for all sorts of humanitarian reasons.

I'm not sure you're talking about the US or Great Britain. I don't think the US would honor him because they tried desperately to deport him back in the days.

If they have that day as the day to commemorate him, it wouldn't be a holiday that everyone would have a day off. Too many heroes didn't have that honor.

Don't get me wrong. I love John Lennon. I love his music and his talent. I also love what he stood for but I don't think it should be a holiday. Matter of fact I just download his music into my ipod. Holidays only reserve for people who contribute to society either a war hero or someone who did extraordinary things, not a musician.

How do you feel about Americans celebrating June 9th (Cole Porter's birthday) or September 26th (George Gershwin's) birthday? Could Brits "Handel" celebrating February 23rd as the birthday of the composer of the "Messiah"?

Even though John Lennon was a talented and creative composer, if December 8th was a national holiday, a lot of other national holidays would need to be enacted as well.

well dec 8th is already a religious holiday, in RC faith.
but from your question, you sound american, i'm guessing, because you say "honor" instead of the british "honour". why would america celebrate an english rock star!? then again, why does ireland celebrate a welshman [st. patrick]!?

I'd rather we'd celebrate it on his birthday, October 9th, rather than the day he was murdered.
