and she's only done it once. Meanwhile, Queen lookalike Jeanette Charles has been doing it for years, and she hasn't got so much as a pat on the back. Once again, it's one rule for Dames, and another rule for bank manager's wives who bear a passing.

Please advise.

Oh, please! Jeanette Charles, as you say, is only a lookalike. Dame Helen Mirren is a superb actress and has won awards for much of her work and real talent, not only for "The Queen".

If we could win awards for lookalikes, just think of the ordinary people like you and me who, just by an accident of fate (and with a bit of make-up and styling), might look like a famous person and make a living by appearing in public and nodding. BUT - when it comes to true talent, to hold a film of about two hours on our representation of a character, could we all do that?

Looking like the Queen and doing a serious, dramatic, feature-length movie as her are two different things. I know Jeanette Charles played the Queen briefly in "The Naked Gun" with Leslie Nielsen, but that was a screwball comedy and she wasn't in it very long.

Helen Mirren was in the entire movie of "The Queen" and it was a serious attempt to get behind the public face to show what was going on in the Queen's mind during the days after Diana's death and the public backlash against the Royal Family. Jeanette Charles could never have pulled off the complex emotions needed for that part.

I have not idea who Jeanette Charles is. Anyway Helen Mirren is superb acting as queen. And actually this is not the first time in a queen's role. She acted as queen Charlotte in the madness of King George and she did also Elizabeth I in a miniseries. Also she did Queen Margaret in a theatre production of Henry VI. Go figure :)

Jeanette Charles was just playing about, i don't think she expects an Oscar for it LOL. Helen Mirren is one of the greatest talents this country has, and deserves all the recognition she has. x

I've never heard of Jeanette Charles. I have heard of Helen Mirren and saw her portrayals of Elizabeth I and Elizabeth II. Has Jeanette Charles ever acted in a movie or series about the Queen? If she hasn't, she isn't eligible to win any of those awards.

You should know that Helen Mirren wasn't born a "Dame". She was given that title because of her important contribution to the cultural life of her country. It's something like a knighthood for women.
