How far away from the throne is a duke/duchess? Should the duke and/or duchess die, would thei daughter be called duchess, or would she remain 'lady'.
EXAMPLE: Duke John and Duchess Elizabeth have daughter Lady Grace. Duke John and Duchess Elizabeth die, is Lady Grace now Duchess Grace?
Also, any other facts about dukes and duchesses that you know, I need as much info as possible for my story.

I am a direct descendant of the Percy Family, who years ago was one of the most powerful families in England, until one of them tried to assasinate the king. Then they moved to America, which is where I am right now. I want to try to get some of my ancestral homes into my possesion, but the problem is that the current Duke of Northumberland, a member of the Percy Family, is one of the richest men in Britain and therefore owns almost every one of my ancestral homes.

I descend from the Percy Family of England, which years ago was one of the most powerful families in England. They had titles and everything, until Thomas Percy tried blowing up James I in the Gunpowder Plot and the Percies changes their name to Pierce and fled to America before they were all hunted down. I can prove I am a descendant of theirs, and it is easy, seeing as one of my great-grandparents had the name Pierce and could prove they were part of that same family with documents. Will the British government give me my family's titles back or not if I became a British citizen?

...who becomes the next British monarch? Would Prince William still become King after his grandma finally kicks the bucket? Or would the throne pass to Princess Anne, since she would be the only remaining child of the Queen?

Thanks, I didnt see this category til today. I'm from the states. I followed coverage of Diana from the day of her wedding until the day she died. Still feel a great loss. Anyway...since Cammilla was "the other woman" and interfered terribly in the marriage of Diana and Charles, or perhaps Charles used innocent and unaware Diana to 'front' a phoney marriage while all along in love w Camilla-why has Camilla been embraced and accepted when she was once very much disdained? It seems so wrong and crazy!

I recently found out that my great-grandmother was a member of the Pierce Family, the very same family that George Bush came from. I found that I am a 4th cousin of George Bush. I went on Burke's Peerage, and found out about George Bush's lineage, because Burke's Peerage has covered every President, and the Pierce Family's lineage, and found out we are very closely related to royalty and I did some more research on Burke's Peerage and found that I am:

-a 18th great-grandson of Henry VII
-a 17th great-grandson of Margaret Tudor
-a 16th great-grandson of Mary, Queen of Scots
-a 15th great-grandson of James I
-a 14th great-grandson of Charles I
-a 13th great-grandson of Charles II

If my ancestors were royalty and nobility, why didn't they stay in England?

I have always been interested in the lives of the Royals, and sadly, here I only have the stupid tabloids to go by as to what is happening.
Is it true that Price William got married? if so, to whom? I was not aware that he had a serious relationship.
If he is married, did he marry for love or politics?
