Diana was a very troubled person even before the Royal Wedding she had bulimia as did her sister Sarah. Diana said herself she felt the marriage was all wrong from the start, but she went ahead with it anyway. I believe Prince Charles really tried to be a good husband and father, but she was all over the place emotionally. They both cheated, and in the end they became friends. Unfortunantely, just as she was turning her life around, she was killed in that terrible accident. With Prince William able to now move into the spot on the thrown, there seemed no need to stop Charles from marrying Camilla. Prince Charles can still be King. Everyone was saddened by the death of Diana, but she caused a lot of pain and grieve for those close to her, and for that reason there is always a larger sense of sadness. Perhaps, if she could have given more to the Royal family and taken less, she would have been Queen. It was not to be. Now, Prince Charles and Camilla are together. William and Harry are men and growing up fine. The Queen mother has passed on, and Diana has been gone 10 years. Amen and let her rest in peace.

Prince Charles' public relations' staff has been working overtime for years, trying to convince the British public that Camilla is an appropriate consort. Faced with the inevitable, more and more Brits have come to the conclusion that any marriage--never mind a royal one--should be a private affair between a man and a woman, even if one or both of them are divorced, much to the displeasure of the Anglican Church. More to the point, however, a significant percentage of Brits simply find the Monarchy irrelevant.
Of course, the marriage between Charles and Lady Diana Spencer was an arranged marriage--not a love match (as the media led everyone to believe). Traditionally, monarchs have made politically expedient marriages to produce heirs and taken mistresses for their personal pleasure, so Charles was simply following form. Diana, on the other hand, had a more contemporary idea of what a marriage should be like.

I often wondered about that myself. How could the royalty of Britain accept Camilla Parker so easily into their family when she had been married before and while being married to her former husband, played the field with Charles? Has morality in the British royalty gone down to such a despicable level? It is like condoning their illicit relationship and looking the other way while Diana was still very much married to Charles then.

I am also an American who's followed Diana since her introduction to the world.I also happen to be an avid reader and know a little about the history of the Royal Family, dating back to Queen Victoria's time.I know very well, the social mores of the aristocratic, upper classes;affairs are very common in these circles since marriages were power-couplings-matches made to increase political power, wealth, social standing.
Charles needed to marry a suitable woman of aristocratic bearing and unsullied reputation.Diana fit the bill.Unfortunately,Diana did not read the biographies of her many cheated-upon predecessors(she was given these to read by Buckingham Palace),so she entered the marriage with high hopes, and also high suspicions: Diana was aware of Camilla and the relationship before the wedding. Camilla, along with Kanga Tryon were Charles' well-known,married,
"confidantes," two women who were always there for him(and who he was romantically involved with).
But Charles did love Diana in the beginning, and did not have a physical affair with Camilla in those first years of marriage,so Diana was lead to believe that she had a chance of a stable family life.Unfortunately,Charles' heart was elsewhere, and the tradition in upper-class aristocratic families was to have affairs(Camilla is the great-granddaughter of King Edward VI's last mistress Alice Keppel),so he eventually went back to the mistress. Diana did not like the arrangement, preferring to try to make the marriage work;she first hoped that things would cool down and she and Charles could patch things up,then she started having her own liasons.
Divorce was not her plan, but the fighting had gone public: Diana Her True Story by Andrew Morton started the fracas and things just deteriorated from then on.
Camilla was the most hated woman in the UK when the truth came out;when Diana died, tragically,in that crash,Camilla was reviled. It took Charles and Camilla years to rehabilitate Camilla's image;they even had to confess to the wrong-doing of the affair at their vow-taking.To their credit, they waited 8 years before marrying and Camilla wisely chose another courtesy title than Princess of Wales to be known by;both Charles and Camilla know that it is very important to honor Diana's memory.William and Harry were not introduced to Camilla right away;the introduction took place several years after Diana's death.William and Harry accepted Camilla;they were witnesses to the disaster of their parents' marriage and were able to accept Camilla as someone who their father loved.
All is not smooth sailing for Charles and Camilla;there are many die-hard Diana fanatics who are not accepting of the Duchess of Cornwall.
I am still a fan of Diana, but I know that Camilla is here to stay and accept her.I also remain quite aware that Camilla's presence doomed the marriage. Diana was the best suited for the job Princess of Wales, but not the best suited for wife of Charles. It would have been more honest to inform Diana of the facts...so she could have entered the marriage with eyes wide open or just call the wedding off...It would have been much better if Camilla had let Charles go and let the marriage develop...There are so many what-ifs!
Today,I just want both women to be treated fairly.I want Diana's memory not to be trashed by the most salacious writings(I prefer biographies to be warts and all but fair and UNBIASED),and I want Camilla and Charles to have a chance to do some good.

Camilla has not been embraced because most of the british people feel like it would be an insult to Diana's memory.

I have always felt like Charles was also a victim of circumstance. He was pressured to marry Diana, all the while knowing Camilla was the one he would have chosen. It's really a tragic love story all around.

I beg to differ.
Camilla has not been embraced by all.
Charles, he's a sly one, eh?
Wrong and crazy, yes, but these are Royals.
Read the American Constitution again
to see what's wrong with Royalty.

Don't you believe it. Most people still don't accept Camilla and I for one don't want to see her be Queen one day.
