The whole nursery rhyme is based on truth and the Regiment was the Kings own Hussars so they would have worn red jackets braided with gold, black trousers with a red triangle let in at the ankle, black boots and a furry black hat.

These days in England, it would be the Queen's Life Guard. I've posted a couple of links as it's easier than trying to describe the uniform.

bearing in mind that the whole nursery rhyme was a poke at the Prince Regent, the "King's Men" would have been "redcoats". Think Napoleonic era english soldiers.
