Webster's Third New International Dictionary says " Intended as transliteration of Hebrew YAHWEH, the vowel points of Hebrew ADHONAY ( my lord ) being erroneously substituted for those of YAHWEH, from the fact that in some Hebrew manuscripts the vowel points of ADHONAY ( used as a auphemism for YAHWEH ) were written under the consonants YHWH of YAHWEH to indicate that ADHONAY was to besubstituted in oral reading for YAHWEH. Jehovah is a Christian transliteration of the tetragrammon long assumed by many Christians to be the authentic reproduction of the Hebrew sacred name for God, but now recognized to be a late hybrid form never used by the Jews"

Is this supported by other reference books? Is it possible that JWs call their God after all with the wrong name and they are so serious about not angering their God with unproper names?

Do they have to do some "just in case they are using the wrong name for their God" deeds or do regular 'works' cover this?

I saw a show on the history channel that there are something like 175 cultures that have a "great flood" story in their distant past - the historian (a non-Christian) estimated the time of these stories to be around 3000BC and that it was caused by an asteroid

could be Noah's flood and the Bible is the account of what happened to the Israelites during that disaster
what do you think

I've been here since Oct last year and it never occurred to me that FSM might be a real religion. I always took it as a joke.

So, is it a joke or is it a real thing?

Yeah, yeah, for someone who's been here for so long - I'm supposed to know that already

The are so many claims against religion based on science. There are just as many claims against science based on relgion. Does anyone have the forethought to believe in both; a God and scientific method?

Genesis 6:3. Do you believe a man has to walk in the flesh or is there another way a man can walk?....and God can come back to you and we live again 900 yrs old. I ask this all the time unto God, do we have to be damed to live 120 yrs old, or are you just looking to see if anyone really misses life, and will see if they will seek for you to come back to us with your spirit and give us life more abundantly.

so my question to ask you is do you think it is obtainable to recive life back to the "way it was suppose to be"? God just said we had to die, not die quickly? to live "again" at 960 yrs or so?

Why do most people, instinctively hate Christians? Are Christians asking to be kicked or do they create a "I feel like kicking him/her feeling" in others?
or
Why do most people hate Jesus Christ, whom they represent?

You know how people didactically emphasize the CHRIST in CHRISTmas over and over again? It doesn't happen that often in other languages.

How lucky are they?

Joyeux Noël, Buon Natale, Feliz Navidad, God Jul, Feliz Natal!

(Yeah, this is repeat. So what?)

Face it...we ALL have beliefs that look "silly" or "ridiculous" to somebody, whether we are religious or not.

I just cannot comprehend why some people think it's necessary to tear down the belief systems of others. Do they do it to compensate for their insecurities about their own beliefs? I guess they figure, "Oh! Look how stupid their beliefs are! That makes mine look better!" Or maybe they are just doing it to be hateful? I don't know.

I would think that most adults would have the maturity and open-mindedness to accept others, but sadly it isn't that way. This is America, we have freedom of religion. Why is it so "crazy" to you if someone is an Atheist? A Catholic? A Mormon? A Jehovah's Witness? etc...

I guess we'll never learn to fully accept each other. There's always going to be some self-righteous bigots who think they have the authority to stomp all over somebody's beliefs. Why do you think this is?

The gospel of John reads "In the beginning was the Logos, and the Logos was with God, and the Logos was God." Logos is often translated into English as "word" but can also mean thought, speech, meaning, reason, proportion, principle, standard, or logic, among other things.

There isn't a really good English translation for Logos, which is one of the most important words in the original Bible.

If Gods wants us to know Him through His word, the Bible, why on earth did He create all those different languages, and with that take a huge risk of us losing the true meaning of His word?

Those who do not believe in religion would say that religion did not exist since the begining of times. So that means than a non-religious person created religion. Is religion the problem or are people?

If there were just atheists in the world, would the world be with not war, no murder, no crime at all? I dont think so. The same will happen if every one is religious.

I wonder what would happen if there is not religion beginning next year, will all problem be solved? I dont think so.

If there were just atheist, there would be the same issues as today. Some atheist will try to determine who are the real atheists and who are not.
