Webster's Third New International Dictionary says " Intended as transliteration of Hebrew YAHWEH, the vowel points of Hebrew ADHONAY ( my lord ) being erroneously substituted for those of YAHWEH, from the fact that in some Hebrew manuscripts the vowel points of ADHONAY ( used as a auphemism for YAHWEH ) were written under the consonants YHWH of YAHWEH to indicate that ADHONAY was to besubstituted in oral reading for YAHWEH. Jehovah is a Christian transliteration of the tetragrammon long assumed by many Christians to be the authentic reproduction of the Hebrew sacred name for God, but now recognized to be a late hybrid form never used by the Jews"
Is this supported by other reference books? Is it possible that JWs call their God after all with the wrong name and they are so serious about not angering their God with unproper names?
Do they have to do some "just in case they are using the wrong name for their God" deeds or do regular 'works' cover this?

My other question on this subject got deleted, those JWs have been having their reporting fingers busy.
I am so happy I am under the grace of God, and I can call Him Father, Jesus, my Lord...That is so wonderful. He knows when I am talking to Him. JWs' God needs to be called Jehovah or the prayers might end up to Satan. that is sad. And now this wrong rendering...oohh no, all their prayers must have been going to satan, which explains a lot. : (

Gem: I also call my Lord Jehovah, that is not the point. But JWs insist that only Jehovah should be used. I can call Him Jesus or Lord or Jehovah or God or father, that is great. We are not making the staments that God does not know when we talk to Him. They insist on using the right name.

Achtung: I know that you do not have any assurance and that is sad. We Christians have that assurance and it is great. The love and mercy and grace of Jesus christ who is our Lord and Savior offers the same deal for you and for me and for all of us. It is your own choice that you want to complicate things.
Questioner this and questioner that, please. Please, do not try to guess what I think, because you cannot. I know that you are a little bit lost because your organization does not know everyhting.
You guys TRY very hard to be intelligent, but you are not going to achieve that by beliveing what your organization says and teaches and demands you to submit to. You will not have salvation without the Lord God Jesus. Please, consider His offer.

Funny. So many people praise the KJB over the NWT, EXCEPT when it comes to God's name being Jehovah, which is in the KJB four times. Now those avid supporters of the KJB try to distance themselves from the Name. Why? Because if they used God's name Jehovah, they are afraid that people might associate them with Jehovah's Witnesses. So what are those lovers of the KJB doing? They now say that "Jehovah" is the wrong way to say God's name. What hypocrisy!
The truth is, nobody knows for sure how the name of God was originally pronounced. Why not? Well, the first language used in writing the Bible was Hebrew, and when the Hebrew language was written down, the writers wrote only consonants—not vowels. Hence, when the inspired writers wrote God’s name, they naturally did the same thing and wrote only the consonants.
Many prefer the pronunciation Jehovah because it has a currency and familiarity that Yahweh does not have. Would it not, though, be better to use the form that might be closer to the original pronunciation? Not really, for that is not the custom with Bible names.

Dear Nina,
I've only got a couple of minutes before I drive my daughter's family to the airport. One of our mutual Contact's sent me your question bright and early so I would like to share with you what I read in 2 John from The Daily Walk Bible this morning.
2 John 7-11 talks about learning to detect false teaching.
Verse 9b says that "whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son."
From my days as a bank Internal Auditor that little word "and" speaks volumes to me. For example if a check is made out to "Mr" then only his signature is required. If "Mr and Mrs" then both signatures are required. If "Mr or Mrs" then 1 of 2 signatures is required.
Since jws do not have the Son in any way shape or form, they do NOT have the Father either. So they can use the name Jehovah until they are blue in the face and they will still come up short. It won't make a bit of difference how many reference books do or do not support their views. The Bible doesn't and that is ALL that matters.
Edit for all of those who are hung up on using the name Jehovah:
You really ought to look at the massive amount of Charles Haddon Spurgeon's writings. He knew very well how to use the name Jehovah. As I was driving home from the airport today I thoroughly enjoyed listening to a tape of Morning and Evening.
For His glory,
JOYfilled

You have enough reference answers already. Just be assured that the word "Jehovah" is found only in the original Hebrew Old Testament. You can never the word "Jehovah" in the Greek New Testament. Although it has the same meaning "God" either OT or NT.

Ask any Jew and they will tell you the name Jehovah is wrong. Even the jews have no problem saying Jehovah because it is not what they consider the name of God (of which they wuld never say outloud.) Yehweh is closer to the correct pronounciation. But having said that let me add that what ever you call Him, Lord, God , Adonai, Jehovah, or Yahweh, He knows who you are talking about.

I am a former Ministerial Servant and now I am inactive. I have been so for over fifteen years. What I do not understand is why you are so bitter and candidly petty?
Further, your constant antagonizing is easy fodder for those that want to play the persecution card in their favor.
It is OK to move on without Hate. You indicate that you have a relationship with the Prince of Peace that died for every ones atonement. So, ask him for help with your wasted energy and time on this formidable Organization.
FYI - None of them (Religions) are perfect or have it completely right.
Edit: So it is your deep love for them that motivates you. My mistake I guess this and you removing yourself from being a fan of mine about "cover this". Rest assured that I will not brother to answer your questions any more. Enjoy your fun and sorry for not being your type either. Some how I will carry on.

When will this dimness cease?
If when we pray to Jehovah our prayers go to Satan, then the same applies when you pray to Jesus.
To be on the safe side, pray to Yehohshua.
EDIT:
"Vot anar: But your organization isnist that you nedd to use Jehovah somewhere in your prayers so that satan cannot get hold of it. We Christians know that Jesus hears us. We are not so hang up on this name thing"
Reference please? How could I have missed that article??!!!!

Its nice to be thought of as being correct, Have you considered that the name of Jesus and Joshua fall into the same category?
that the same principle applies to them? The harm comes in when you look at things with blinders own.
