Hello! For those who don't know me, I'm a Christian...but I'm VERY interested in understanding other perspectives better. Right now, I'm working on purchasing books that counter intelligent design. So far I've gotten books by Carl Sagan, I'm rereading Origin of Species (which I own a 1927 edition of), and I'm ordering The God Delusion. I'm also considering Letter to a Christian Nation by Sam Harris.
Can you guys give me a list of books to consider? I can't promise I'll buy ALL of them right this moment, but I am buying a few.
I'd really appreciate a comprehensive list.
And for any Christians who might peek in here, this question can work for you, too. If you know of books that counter the ones the atheists list, I'd appreciate those too.
Thanks in advance!

I am a Christian now although I was brought up Catholic
well..more like forced
anyhow
why can't catholic priests get married? it wasn't like that before was it?
And why do I have to go to confession when it's not like the priests are any better than me. I thought it said that everyone was a sinner so what gives the priest the right to be trusted? And why are there altars people keep telling me that I have to worship this big statue of Jesus and Virgin Mary

It's mostly "science & logic" type atheists going at it with lunatic fringe fundamentalists. Am I the only person who gets bored with all this back and forth on idiocies like "creationism"? I had expected it to be dominated by religious minoritities. Rather colorful. All kinds of exotic belief systems. This is like listening to a 14-year-old science buff bicker with a 14-year-old Bible thumper. There are intelligent questions, but they're awfully hard to find. Is anyone else disturbed by this atheist-fundie domination? I've seen a few postings by pagans and Wiccans but not a lot and anyway there is more variety to our category topic than even that. Opinions? Please be courteous.

Do you always wear them? Does it start when you are baptized or married or what? Do they have to be the closest thing to your body... I didn't think so because then a girl would have a lot of trouble wearing a bra...don't have to answer this one because it is personal? And also, what do they symbolize?

Ok,so here's what happened: Back in December I had this car accident in which my car got totaled & my mom is convinced that this happened because I don't read the Bible or pray as much as I should & because one day I didn't go to Bible study because I had some homework to finish, & since I'd decided not to go, I stayed a little while after I got off work at my college to talk to my friend (future boyfriend), plus I wasn't really ready to come home yet & I like to socialize a bit after I get off work. Also, when I started driving I didn't go to Bible study as much because most of the time I just wanted to stay home & relax, & she thinks this is also a reason why my car got wrecked. So, I ended up getting another car like a month ago & I just had another accident (not too bad) yesterday. Now she's saying that if I had prayed & read more, this wouldn't have happened. I dont know what she's trying to say, but it almost sounds as if shes saying bad things wont happen just because you do tha

NASA seems to have a big interest in acquiring top notch space travel equipment by the year 2012. They are offering hundreds of millions of dollars to companies who can design and build high tech space travel vehicles. Why is the year 2012 so important to NASA and the Government?

NASA website clearly says "no later than 2012", so this is a deadline. According to President Bush's earlier speeches, he plans to put men on the moon again by 2012. He speaks about moon bases, manned Mars missions, and the likes. Why this big space pushes by 2012?

The Orbital Space Plane program will provide the capability for crew rescue by 2010 and the capability for crews to transfer to and from the International Space Station by 2012.

The three system design contractor teams — The Boeing Company of Seal Beach, Calif.; Lockheed Martin Corp. of Denver; and a team including Orbital Sciences Corp. of Dulles, Va., and Northrop Grumman of El Segundo, Calif. — will each receive approximately $45 mil

A menorah is not offensive to me, I think they are rather cool looking, and the little candles they make for them are artful.

By the way, if you are Jewish, would you be offended if a close Christian aquaintence/client gave you a menorah as a gift? Would you think they were over stepping their boundaries?
What would you think if they had a menorah in their house? (Of course they know what it stands for and what it means)
