I have a friend who claims premarital sex is a sin, one of which Jesus will not forgive, even though he died on the cross to forgive us our sins. What do you think?

So I was in a debate tonight with my sister's boyfriend about women being active in the church. I have never heard this before and was very interested when he pointed out 2 references in the bible that say that women need to be silent in church and never say a word. Also that women should not be leaders in the church and that if women have a question about the church that they should ask their husband after church and in the home. What do you think about this? What side are you on?

I mean, we obviously all have roofs over our heads and computers and internet connections, which means we probably are all well off enough to have enough to eat and clothes on our backs. I feel extremely fortunate that I was born into a life I could make this possible for myself in. We actually have time to sit here and talk about our spiritual beliefs. With people all over the world. Who's with me on this?

Why is it that so many people like to point to the civil war and the antebellum period and say that Christianity is bad because it supports slavery... Did they miss the whole section in their history books about the abolitionists? Or perhaps they just skipped over the Underground Railroad?

While it is so much easier to claim that Christianity supports slavery, just look at what they did to the poor Africans.. some one really should do some research into the whole slave trade. Africans sold other Africans into slavery. Islamic traders sold Africans into slavery... Ooops.. So sorry... I meant to say that it doesn't all add up to the entire Christian population of the world believing in slavery, especially when you note the many Christian men and women who went out of their way to free slaves, and in many places still are.

For the sake of this question (and don't try to convince me otherwise) say Jesus is not the son of God, that whole side of Jesus was modeled after Pagan beliefs and Paul told of Jesus incorrectly.

First of all, what evidence (other than biblical) do we have of Jesus' existance?

Was he the son of God in the sense that he became one with the Divine (in his religion Yahweh) through a metaphysical experience that revealed the concept of Unity to him? Are many people capable of this?

I mean, all the things he did were to carry out the prophecy, right? So he purposely carried out the prophecy (like John baptising him, etc). Could that mean he just felt like a dude who could show people how to connect with the Divine and so he claimed he was the messiah?

I am not trying to start a debate, so please be kind with your answers. I am a Christian and am thoroughly convinced that God created EVERYTHING...including myself. However,...I can't help but be curious. For those who don't believe in God, believe in another god / gods, or whatever...where do you believe that we came from? And what do you believe happens when you die? Please be specific, but curteous.

Why, if species have descended from other species by insensibly fine gradations, do we not everywhere see innumerable transitional forms? Why is not all nature in confusion instead of the species being, as we see them, well defined? ... But, as by this theory innumerable transitional forms must have existed, why do we not find them embedded in countless numbers in the crust of the earth?… Why then is not every geological formation and every stratum full of such intermediate links? Geology assuredly does not reveal any such finely graduated organic chain; and this, perhaps, is the most obvious and serious objection which can be urged against the theory

What is your understanding of Christians getting tattoos? I think some people in my life would disagree with my decision, but I really think its okay - maybe in moderation. BTW - No one would treat me wrong for getting one, but I feel funny going against their advice. What's your perspective?
