Jehovah's Witnesses are Christian. Jehovah's Witnesses teach that no salvation occurs without Christ, that accepting Christ's sacrifice is a requirement for true worship, that every prayer must acknowledge Christ, that Christ is the King of God's Kingdom, that Christ is the head of the Christian congregation, that Christ is immortal and above every creature, even that Christ was the 'master worker' in creating the universe!

It is surprising that a Jehovah's Witness insisted that the Almighty should not be called "God". It's not exactly wrong to call the Almighty by the impersonal "God", just as it's not wrong to call one's offspring "Child". If we want a familiar and close relationship, however, it makes sense to use the personal name of someone we love. The Scriptures encourage us to use God's personal name.

(Psalms 83:18) That people may know that you, whose name is Jehovah, You alone are the Most High over all the earth

(John 17:26) [Jesus said] I have made your name known to them and will make it known, in order that the love with which you loved me may be in them

The important thing is to use God’s personal name in whatever language you speak, rather than insisting upon the impersonal! The name “Yahweh” is certainly preferable to the non-name “God” or “Lord”, especially if you speak Hebrew. If you speak English, feel free to use the name "Jehovah".

Jehovah's Witnesses? Yes, that is the way they refer to themselves. It is a descriptive name, indicating that they bear witness concerning Jehovah, his Godship, and his purposes. "God," "Lord," and "Creator"—like "President," "King," and "General"—are titles and may be applied to several different personages. But "Jehovah" is a personal name and refers to the almighty God and Creator of the universe. This is shown at Psalm 83:18, according to the King James version of the Bible: "That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth."
The name Jehovah (or Yahweh, as the Roman Catholic Jerusalem Bible and some scholars prefer) appears almost 7,000 times in the original Hebrew Scriptures. Most Bibles do not show it as such but substitute "God" or "Lord" for it. However, even in these Bibles, a person can usually tell where the original Hebrew text uses Jehovah because in those places the substituted words are written in large and small capitals, thus: GOD, LORD. Several modern translations do use either the name Jehovah or the name Yahweh. Hence, the New World Translation reads at Isaiah 42:8, "I am Jehovah. That is my name."

I'm one of them. Many people above me said many lies about us. That's not surprising knowing that Jesus said that his true disciples will be hated by the world like he was. "Then people will deliver YOU up to tribulation and will kill YOU, and YOU will be objects of hatred by all the nations on account of my name." - Matthew 24:9
"If YOU were part of the world, the world would be fond of what is its own. Now because YOU are no part of the world, but I have chosen YOU out of the world, on this account the world hates YOU." - John 15:19

That witness who knocked on your door will probably come back. You should talk to him. You have nothing to lose. If you won't agree with what he's saying you can anytime tell him that you don't want to be visited anymore and he will understand.

I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses...first of all, you can call God, God, but his name is Jehovah...our Bible's do teach the same thing (when my mother was studying, she used both Bibles just to make sure...a lot of witnesses even encourage you to look the scriptures cited in your own Bible, and if you are more comfortable doing this, then do it). Go ahead and compare them, and you'll see this to be true (the main difference is the fact that most other Bible's are in old English and don't use Jehovah's name very often). I encourage you to compare them. Hope I helped.
Added:
We DO believe in Jesus. Jesus is God's son. The Bible teaches us about Jesus. We are Christians. The only website that you can guarantee accurate renditions of our teachings is: www.watchtower.org
You can google Jehovah's Witnesses and you will get lies.

In considering whether Jehovah’s Witnesses are a cult, consider that the same things were said about the first Christians of nearly 2000 years ago.

They were people who went door to door, telling their Jewish brethren that their rituals, beliefs, and holidays, dating back hundreds of years, were no longer valid. Highly educated individuals in the religious arts, such as Saul of Tarsus, could prove that this new Jewish Sect was a cult.

It was made up of lower (working) class individuals, like a Fisherman (Peter) and a Tax Collector (Matthew) who lacked any education, let alone one in religion. And worse, they were following the teachings of a lower class Carpenter (Jesus).

They were writing their own scriptures (Bible) and not sticking with the ones that had sustained the Jews for nearly 2000 years. It was a Bible that matched their beliefs and not those of their brethren Jews.

Any of this sound familiar?

With all his education, Saul could not see that the Truth was being taught house to house.

It took the appearance of Christ, blinding him, for him to see the light. We now know him as the Apostle Paul.

This is what Jehovah’s Witnesses represent.

Every witness becomes a legal minister and not just the elite who get paid to do it. A simple window washer can grow to become a Congregation Overseer, a Circuit or District Servant, or sit on the Governing Board. No, they will not have their names enshrined on building, a church, or in some book, nor will they get paid, but they will be do something to benefit all mankind.

The Churches of Christendom present a better argument for a cult than the Witnesses. A single individual gets paid to tell a large group what they are to believe. They don’t teach them to be ministers, as Christ instructed, and they ignore the admonishments against involvement in the affairs of the world and keeping the congregation clean.

As for the NWT Bible, please find something better than the King James Version to compare to. It was created because the Geneva Bible was considered too strict. The memory of King James was immortalized on it because he prevented the men working on the new version from being put to death by the Roman Catholic Church. It took them 150 years and revised it four times, before it matched the beliefs of the Church of England enough to be AUTHORIZED. The same church whose Bishop said that severely handicap children should be allowed to die at birth, just six months ago.

As a Jehovah's Witness I think he meant that Jehovah is God's name. And yes, all bibles are printed the same almost. Except there are many which say that Jesus died on a Cross and etc. If you have any other questions just ask me.

I hate it when everyone start pointing the finger and saying, "You are a cult." Does anyone know what the definition of a cult is? Look it up, CULT,Any set of beliefs and practices associated with a particular god or group of gods, forming a distinctive part of a larger religious body. The focus of the worship or devotion of a cult is usually a god or gods, spirit or spirits, associated with particular objects and places. The focus of devotion may be an animal (eg the whale cult in Eskimo religions), a particular deity (eg the Hindu cult devoted to Shiva), or even a deified human being (eg the emperor cult in ancient Rome).

So all you church goers are cult members. Bash the JW's because they believe different based on what the find as truth in the bible, but you dont say anything about the wacked pentecostals that will tell you your not saved unless you speak in tongues. So they look at the original greek and hebrew and draw a different conclusion. People really show their ignorance when it comes to religion.. Study the reformation and what the early church fathers believe, the whole Jesus is god was hashed out and yet another council, not in the 1st, 2nd, but yet again in the 3rd century. So since jesus is God, then he was praying to himself, when he asked himself to let this cup pass from him but not his will but his will be done,, See how that screws with the context? And when he was on the cross before his last breath It would have sounded more like,, Into My hands I commend My Spirit? What about Jesus prayer, Father let them be one as you and I are one? Would sound like, Me, let them be one as I am with myself? Think this stuff through when you dont know everything and start calling people a cult just because they believe different than you do, there are many accepted denomintations with more wild ideas than the JW's.

Almost everyone on here has the attitude, If you dont look like me, your going to hell, if you dont sing like me your going to hell, etc.. etc... Wait, JW's are wrong cause they believe in soul sleep or whatever,, even though it says in the OT thant the Living are aware they are going to die but the dead are concious of nothing,,, or what about man returning to the dust he came from?
There us such a diversity of belief among all who call themself christian I doubt you will find anyone that believes the same way, Oh, Wait, You do? than the encyclopedia says YOUR A CULT MEMBER.

Look to www.watchtower.org to see who Jehovah's Witnesses REALLY are. There are many prejudiced opinions here.

Note to B:

Respectfully, you are wrong about our methods for donating to this organization. Not one of the elders or other members of my congregation (with the exception of my marriage mate) has a clue what my income is. I give what I want, when I want and our donations are anonymous (unless we want a tax receipt). We do not solicit funds from the public when we go door to door and if you were to go to a meeting at our Kingdom Hall, you would find that a collection plate is NEVER passed at ANY of our meetings. For more information, there is an explanation of how our organization is run at www.jw-media.org.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to clarify!

To answer your question, you have to know what a true Christian is.

A true Christian believes that Jesus is the Son of God, the Christ, the Way to the Father.
A true Christian follows and believes in the Bible as the Word of God.
A true Christian believes that Jesus' Father is Jehovah and he is the true God (John 17:3, Psalms 83:18)
A true Christian preaches and excercises faith to Christ, and the Father (John 17:26, John 3:16)
True Christians have faith in Jesus and his Father(John 14)
True Christians make Our Father’s name known so that the love of Christ be with them & Jesus be with those who showed faith (John 17:26)
Their form of worship is clean and undefiled and their teachings have no pagan roots (James 1:27).
True Christians are no part of the world (John 15:19)
True Christians believe that their salvation is from the Father and from the Son (Rev 7:10)
True Christians do the will of the Father, Jehovah as Jesus commanded in Mat 7:21
True Christians magnify Jehovah's name (Mat 6:9)
True Christians’ warfare is not of the flesh (2 Cor 10:3,4)
True Christians believe that we have to be in subjection to the existing human governments because they act as ministers also for our own good (Romans 13)
True Christians have love among themselves so they don't kill each other during times of war and distress (John 13:35)
True Christians bear good fruits (Mat 7:17-20)
True Chrisitians love God’s commandments and follow them (1 John 2)
True Christians preach about God’s kingdom.(Mat 28)

and many more…

Who among the existing religions show that? Jehovah's Witnesses fit those descriptions.

Yes they are Christians. Their beliefs are based from the bible God is his title and Jehovah is his name. And their bible is the same as yours. Why do ppl seem to feel threatened by them? All they do is talk about the bible as did Jesus when he was on the earth. I would be more threatened by other religions that teachings cannot be found in the bible. Here is some corrections they do not take directly from our salarys and we do not feel that everyday is easter or whatever . before ppl make assumptions you should do your homework instead of repeating hearsay.

In most ways Jehovah’s Witnesses are like everyone else. They have normal problems, economic, physical, emotional. They make mistakes at times, for they are not perfect, inspired, or infallible. But they try to learn from their experiences and diligently study the Bible to make needed corrections. They have made a dedication to God to do his will, and they apply themselves to fulfill this dedication. In all their activities they seek guidance from God’s Word and his holy spirit.

It is of vital importance to them that their beliefs be based on the Bible and not on mere human speculations or religious creeds. They feel as did the apostle Paul when he expressed himself under inspiration: “Let God be found true, though every man be found a liar.” (Romans 3:4, New World Translation) When it comes to teachings offered as Biblical truth, the Witnesses strongly endorse the course followed by the Beroeans when they heard the apostle Paul preach: “They received the word with the greatest eagerness of mind, carefully examining the Scriptures daily as to whether these things were so.” (Acts 17:11) Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that all religious teachings should be subjected to this test of agreement with the inspired Scriptures, whether the teaching is offered by them or by someone else.

Jehovah’s Witnesses believe in the Bible as the Word of God. They consider its 66 books to be inspired and historically accurate. What is commonly called the New Testament they refer to as the Christian Greek Scriptures, and the Old Testament they call the Hebrew Scriptures. They rely on both of these, the Greek and the Hebrew Scriptures, and take them literally except where the expressions or settings obviously indicate that they are figurative or symbolic. They understand that many of the prophecies of the Bible have been fulfilled, others are in the course of fulfillment, and still others await fulfillment.

Jehovah’s Witnesses? The way they refer to themselves. It is a descriptive name, indicating that they bear witness concerning Jehovah, his Godship, and his purposes. “God,” “Lord,” and “Creator”, like “President,” “King,” and “General”, are titles and may be applied to several different personages. But “Jehovah” is a personal name and refers to the almighty God and Creator of the universe. This is shown at Psalm 83:18, according to the King James version of the Bible: “That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.”

The Scriptural account that Jehovah’s Witnesses draw on for their name is in the 43rd chapter of Isaiah. There the world scene is viewed as a courtroom drama: The gods of the nations are invited to bring forth their witnesses to prove their claimed cases of righteousness or to hear the witnesses for Jehovah’s side and acknowledge the truth. Jehovah there declares to his people: “Ye are my witnesses, saith Jehovah, and my servant whom I have chosen; that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am Jehovah; and besides me there is no saviour.” Isaiah 43:10, 11, American Standard Version.

Some 6,000,000 persons today who are telling the good news of Jehovah’s Kingdom by Christ Jesus in over 236 lands and 100,000 Congregations worldwide feel that they properly refer to themselves as Jehovah’s Witnesses.

With Bible Studies, we will use any Bible that the person may have, King James, America Standard, Catholic, etc, etc, you may have heard that we have our own Bible, and that it is the only one we will use, that is not true, the TRUTH can be found in any Bible, I personally have a King James Bible with me at all times in the Ministry because many people prefer that version of the Bible.
