say you started dating someone based on the fact that you enjoyed each other's company, there was a mutual attraction, you had things in common, blah blah blah. could you/would you continue to date this person if you later learned he/she was atheist?

As long as she didn't try to force me to join her church.

This is something that only you can decide. I dated an atheist some years ago, and I am a Christian. I loved him, and I tried to make it work, but we couldn't reconcile the differences. He thought I was deluded and I felt sorry for him. Unequal yoke and all that. If you feel strongly about your spiritual beliefs and the person you are dating feels strongly about their lack thereof, be prepared for some turbulence in a serious relationship.

No. I could never love anyone who did not love God and put him first in their life. I think I would have to know this about a person before I would even consider dating them.

I don't think that attraction will continue because I can't see myself being with someone so narrow-minded and faithless....and this would be one of the first things I'd try to find out if I was seriously interested in someone..

No. I wanted someone in my life who shared my values and would be a partner with me in every aspect of our lives... especially in matters as important and personal as faith. It is a topic that permeates every area of my life, and I can't imagine spending my life with a man who doesn't share my core values. Especially when it comes to the raising of our children.

I would be very happy. In fact I would reject anyone but an atheist.

What if you learned they were a Baptist? That would really freak me out, cause they are crazy. They are nuts, and they pray to an imaginary God and all kinds of weird things.

I would pray over the decision and only if God told me to continue that relationship, would i. Without a direct calling from God the answer would be to cut the relationship.

God Bless!!!

No...and that couln't be something I "later learned." That would, beyond a shadow of a doubt, be my 1st question.

to tell you the truth, there wouldn't have been a first date. If we cannot agree on the important things, it is doubtful that we would have agreed on the simple things.
