A true guru teaches you to find your own way. If you can do it on your own, great, but there's nothing wrong with learning from those wiser than you.

Guru is one who imparts knowledge. Guru is always needed right from day one in this universe. First guru is mother of the child, then academic teachers, professors, and so on. Finally, if one is lucky, one may find a true spiritual guru by His Grace who is the only one capable of taking the soul back to original home permanently and thus liberate the soul from the cycle of incarnations and in turn save from unlimited sufferings caused by past karmas.

The same scriptures that speak of guru(spiritual master) in turn tells us that guru is necessary. There is no question of not accepting a guru.

Bhagavad gita, chapter 4, text 34
Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized souls can impart knowledge unto you because they have seen the truth.

Srila Prabhupad,founder of ISKCON says,
Guru's not a fashion. "Oh, I have got a guru. I shall make a guru." Guru means one who's serious. Tasmad gurum prapadyeta. One has to seek out a guru. Why? Jijnasu sreya uttamam. One who is inquisitive of the Supreme. Just like we keep a dog, fashion, Similarly, we should not keep a guru. "Guru will act according to my decision." Not like that. Guru means one who can give you Krishna.

Yes, Sure we need guru. Have you ever thought of this question??

After you were born, If you mother wasn;t guru to teach you the word to call her as "amma or ma or mom". How could you able to speak your first word? She is being a guru there while teaching you. Otherwise, you would have not learn to speak. While teaching, your mom is being a guru there and let you know the things around you.

It's the same, for attaining moksha or learning or reading some slogas, our elders seeks for guru, who can explain the meaning and way to reach god.

A guru or guide is required in your life and one must be lucky to find the right person at an young age. This experience of the guru helps the person to find the right path.

I don't believe in spiritual gurus.

I also had the feeling, why one need a guru in life. If you follow the spiritual books & try to follow it then it should be sufficient. But its not true, this year Krishna blessed me by giving me my Guru (Jagadguru Kripaluji Maharaj ..www.jkp.org). Actually from Him I came to know that 'Hari kripa mile Guru, Guru kripa mile Hari'. Its blessing of Krishna that he helps us in getting a Guru. And after that when u accept him as a Guru & surrender to him & follow his words than Guru helps us in taking us to Lord Krishna. Without Guru nobody can reach the devine abode of Krishna thats clearly written in the Vedas.

guru is needed.

otherwise it would be like asuras in sincere tapas. once they get the wish, not knowing how to use it, bring havoc to the people around them.

Now, If God is all knowing, why shld he grant a Boon to Asuras.

So, Even a God cannot be a Guru, i think. Only a proper person can guide u to eternity.

Do we need a torch light to locate a thing in darkness or not?
Even though we know where we have kept it earlier, we still need a torch to locate.
We do not know where God is or how to search him and to identify him even if we see him. Guru is like torch helping us in achieving our goal.
