Many people believe that the Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is the ultimate solution to people getting along.
I think it has the same flaw that many organized (universalistic) religions have: it implies that there is only one right way to do something and that if your intentions are good that it is OK to inflict it on others.

Would the Platinum Rule be better, "Do unto others as they wish to have done unto them"? Are the people of the world capable of learning this lesson?

P.S.: Despite popular belief, the Golden Rule was NOT one of Christ's teachings. He, like many other great prophets, did express the idea of it though.

...and that in order to turn things around, we need to become less focused on self and more charitable towards our neighbor? And also, increase our love and trust in our Creator?

I know from Josephus (an atheist Historian) and early Essene scrolls and by deduction of Jesus' words that, after the crucifixion, the early Christian followers professed these simple clear messages.

1. "You have hurt me, but I forgive you."
2. "If I have hurt you, I am sorry, please forgive me."
3. "I am not afraid to die, because I know that if I am nice to you, I will go to Heaven."

As a consequence, even though they were persecuted by the Jews and Romans, Christianity spread like wild fire across the world (except for Asia of course).

My Question is, What do some (most) Christians profess, today?

I am SOOOO angry at this! Several times this year churches have been vadalized for the sole reason that they are Christian churches. That is HATEFUL religious discrimination. Yet, it is NEVER considered a hate crime in the courts... this just happened to my church. All over the world Christians are being persecuted and MURDERED for their faith. North Korea is the worst for it. Here in America we condone such actions by not punishing those responsible for hurting others for the exact SAME reasons. By allowing these disgusting vandals to get away with nothing but a slap on the wrist, we're telling them it's OKay as long as you don't get caught. Yet for some odd reason, this isn't considered hateful. WHY NOT???!!!!!

We all know who we are. We all have our favorites, who we like and who we hate. More than likely we hate someone here most who is of a different religion then us. Or Evolutionist/Creationist thing.

Heres what I want you to do.

I want you to list who you hate most in this section, and then I want you to tell me one personal fact you know about them and then I want you to tell me one good thing about them that would be a reason why other people should like them.

Since I'm the "Mayor" I'll be a leader and go first.

I most dislike Mainworry cause hes a creationist. One fact about him he's made public is his first name is Wayne, I know the state he lives in I don't know if thats pubilc thou.

There are two reasons why people should consider him a friend. One is when you talk to him in emails he is very respectful and asks how I am doing. The second reason is, he has a good working knowledge of the Bible and I find his Bible quotes to be appropriate on here to the ?s

i mean seriously liberal christians are still christians just like a fanatic or a fundie your all christians every last one of you are. and i will state this as well Bush jr. has stated many times he is a born again christian from the south and the reason behind people not liking bush is simple hes not doing a very christ like job by being in iraq as long as he wanted the soldiers to be there. he has also lied to the people about bringing home the troops not too long ago.

i am not a christian or even closely related to any christian stand point but i think its very rude to pick and bash liberal christians. its not very christ like either mind you.

i will stick up for some of the liberals on here though respectfully

I am referring to the existence of God.

Please explain why/why not. Maybe we can get this settled once and for all. I am an optimist, I guess.

Let me share with you how to ensure that you meet the rapture and not left behind to face the antichrist and forced to wear the mark 666.

Well, first you must acquire the characters qualifying you to be a citizen of heavenly kingdom. Read and strive for the characters and qualities the beatitude and sermon on the mount talk about. Then remember and do Jesus' new commandment to love one another as your brothers and sisters and love your enemies and involve in his great commission. Thirdly, just disassociate the behaviours Jesus warns against as represents by his seven letters to the Seven Churches. Do what he pleases.

I may add another one which one must develop and that is the fruit of the Holy Spirit suggested by Paul.

Cultivate and acquire as suggested above and your rapture is assured.

Bible is the only book whether it is regarded as myth or not has the end times so clearly prophecized and how to get to heaven by acquiring the kingdom citizenship qualities.
