I am a Christian because I wish to follow God and I believe that Jesus was God's son and Messiah. But I don't understand Christians who put a tremendous emphasis on Heaven and Hell. When we are children, we may try to behave so we will be rewarded and not punished. When we are older, hopefully we will have enough moral sense to do what is right even if we are punished for doing the right thing. I would try to follow the Word of God even if the 'reward' for doing so was to be tossed into Hell. I think when Christians try to evangelize primarily by using the Heaven / Hell argument, it sounds juvenile, like "you better believe or God's gonna spank ya". I think it creates an impression of the religion which actually discourages many moral, intelligent people from searching deeper into Christ. I know I became a Christian in spite of this form of evangelism, not because of it. I'm not arguing the existence of Heaven or Hell, just how we emphasize it. Comments?

Just curious. I know people here are of all beleifs, religions and persuasions, so I will get a balance of responses (hopefully). I personally am not out to bash anyone because I really feel it's the option of that woman to do what she feels is appropriate in her condition being that it is medically considered "high risk" ie: life threatening.

Personally, I have borderline hypertension. It went up considerably in the second trimester of my pregnancy with my baby. Doctors scared me into thinking I would get pre-eclampsia, a low birthweight baby and strokes and yada yada, but deep inside, I knew all would be well, so I didn't listen and all was normal and well, and I delivered a perfectly healthy 8.5 lb baby girl at 39 weeks. Never so much as a speck of protein in my urine or even a contraction before delivery.

Technically, and medically, my life was in danger. I would not do this again, so I and hubby are getting fixed but, I don't feel a woman would be a bad person for aborting.

I've heard people say that hell is spending eternity without God. Isn't God everywhere though? Isn't He even with people who don't want Him to be with them? Since God is the source of all things, what does it mean to say that God is not somewhere or with someone? Isn't God's attention necessary for things to exist? Is hell just non-existance then, or do the immortal souls of evil people continue to exist in a "place"?

I suppose that will come down to peoples interpretation of the word 'religion'... whether it means only having ones life dictated by a novel, or wether it means having the ability to think for oneself!.
(Actually it could mean a myriad of things rather than the either/or scenario - I got carried away and thought I was preaching for a minute !. (Preachers give you two options rather than let you think for yourself)

okay, why is it that Christian men are really no different than secular men when it comes to choosing their wives. They too want the most slender beautiful women. In fact, I've found more worldly men to be less selective when it comes to their girlfriends and wives. Aren't we supposed to pick our spouses based on their character?

I know that this may just be the introduction to the book of Revelation, do you think there is any hidden meanings? Have you any insight to these (only 1:1-1:3) passages that you would like to share?

I want everyone's thoughts, please be respectful, I do care what you have to say, no matter the beliefs that you may or may not have.

-For Reference-
Prologue
1The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2who testifies to everything he saw—that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. 3Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.

Do you consider your Atheism a religion or a lack of religion? Do you try to evangelize others to convince them to be Atheists? If you argue in favor of Atheism, is it to defend your own beliefs or to convert others to Atheism? If you ARE trying to get others to be Atheists, what are the benefits to them if they do in fact become Atheists?
